New Black Tundra - Lots of Questions

Also when you see the surface flaking off that is clear coat failure not the actual paint. [clip]

Except if those flakes are the color of your car and you see gray primer underneath (as in the case with my white 2001 Silverado).

In which case it is most likely a crappy repaint, cause GM didn't have any single stage paints on 2000 GM Trucks..

1. Not even the late 90's where SS (single stage). I have painted a lot of 98's and all were BC/CC.
Indeed, you can't drive down our Main Street here in Lebanon without driving past an old GM truck with clearcoat failure... They did a round of recalls on some of the early 90's ones.. Had a buddy who got a new paint job on a truck with 220k miles!!

Wow. New paint job under warranty at 220K!? How did it hold up?

I guess they got lucky when I picked the truck up last time. It was an overcast day and I couldn't see the swirls anymore. There was a little rain later that night and the truck got a coating of dirt/dust spots. Then I really couldn't see anything. In preparation for a clear bra install later today I finally washed it. That's a BIG job.

Still swirly. Now with holograms. And (I knew this part) they didn't wash/detail/polish the roof and those bird turds are really stuck on. I got a couple, but... I think it's time for the white flag.
