Hello to the many experienced detailers. I am new to detailing (personal), although I am now in my fifties. As my wife has shared with me many times, I love to restore things and make them "shiny". I have average automobiles; 2009 Mercury Milan, 2008 Pontiac Vibe, but I love to make them shine like new.

I started buying exceptional products (Wolfgang) on AutoGeek a few months ago which began my search for further improvement. First time claying a car, and then used Wolfgang Fuzion to make the cars sparkle. I just bought an older Griot's Garage 6" for my first machine for "next level" enhancement (a little nervous about this machine after reading some threads). I will be posting new questions on initial pad selection and products recommended.

Thanks for reading and offering any assistance along the way. I am very grateful to have such a supportive site for people passionate about detailing.

No need to be nervous, it's a very safe tool to use.

Scroll down the first link for a great backing plate and pad size. As far as pads go the LC 5.5" Flat pads are great all around pads and a good choice for beginners. The B&S 5.5" thin pads are also good. The Meguiar's super thin Foam Discs in 5.5" are also very good, since they are very thin you want to pay a tick more attention when buffing if you're just starting out.

:welcome: ...to AGO!

Glad to see some of the...younger generation :)...
eager to improve their detailing skill-set.

Thanks Mike. Appreciate your videos and willingness to teach.

Are you recommending that I switch from the current 6" plate? I see that almost all others are at 5.5". From my reading, it appears the LC ones are best.

As for fear, I was mostly concerned that this earlier model would not necessarily accommodate some of the work I wanted to try (eg., swirl removal). Maybe the Wolfgang Finishing Glaze will offer some additional improvement to the paint without having to use the Swirl Remover.

Thanks for feedback and the kind welcome!

Welcome,
I think there are many of us in our 50's.

Welcome!
There aren't that many but there a few of us here that are still teenagers

Wow, I guess there's hope for me yet! I've been reading for months and now ready to start trying some more serious things. I posted my first questions in the Detailing 101 section. The problem is that I have a ton of questions. So, I am just taking it slow and waiting on feedback to learn more before releasing them all :)

Thanks everyone! I am truly glad to be connected to such cool people.

Welcome Tony C....
This is a great site for information. I've been reading (lurking) on this site for a few years. I bought a new Corvette Grand Sport (Red, of course) in 2012 and I had seen the advertisement for AG on "My Classic Cars" many times. Before I bought my car, I decided that I was going to learn how to maintain it - the right way. I've learned a lot and spent a lot. I'm a Wolfgang fan, as well....I'm in my late 50's.
Enjoy the site and have fun....

Welcome to Autogeek. I highly recommend Mike's Detailing Boot Camp. It is great even for us "older" folks.
