10 cars to trade-in now for maximum return - Yahoo! Autos

7. Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

Speed never goes out of style, with the pavement-burning top V8-powered model in the venerable Mustang line from 2008 estimated to return 73 percent of its original sticker price in trade-in value. By comparison, the 2008 GT model can be expected to hold 67 percent of its original cost in trade, with the more-passive V-6 base version worth just 67 percent of its sticker price.

Yeah I read something like that somewhere, about the resale value, and the Shelby's will probably start going up in value fairly soon. Also that video was great! I loved seeing the boss taking down the other competitor's. It's good to know Ford stays on top!

Taken by one of our ISC members just the other day:

Subaru!! Much better quality/road handling. It'll last you forever.

Well, technically they both have a blue oval on the grille. LOL:D

Being die hard Ford myself, I'm screaming Mustang. However, looking at your location, if you are looking for a daily, I'd probably have to say go with the AWD Subie for winter.

Yeah I decided to just get a cheap work truck for winter and have the mustang for the rest of the year.

lol definitely. I am getting an 08 gt500 :xyxthumbs:

That is a cool Subie ad/tractor trailer! The thing with the 95% of Subies still on the road, compared to Fords, is that they look like they are capable of staying on the road for another 10 years.:D
I am not a fan of Mustangs, but I do hate seeing everyone and their sister driving around Mustangs that look like they just drove them out of the salvage yard, or are taking them there. Only because of Carroll Shelby do I occasionally take a second look at 5% of Mustangs out there.:)
The thing with Mustangs holding "price" is the demand, not the actual value of the car IMO; minus the limited performance models. Total a Mustang and see what the value is compared to a totaled Subaru. And see what injuries occur from a wreck in a Mustang compared to a Subaru. Just saying:)

This is a very one sided view. Almost every car's resale price is on demand, but anyway if you think about it, the mustang is one of the most reliable vehicles you can buy. And lucky for you I have been in two accidents and so has my dad in a mustang. One was a 2012 GT premium and the car held up great and so did we. Ford has some of the safest car's on the road. Also my father didn't want a car that was in an accident so he sold it in for only $500 dollars off of full sticker. Lastly Ford's can last forever, some of the strongest engines around.

I love those honda s2k. such a sexy little two seater with more than 8000 revs before redline. it seems like such a fun car to own, not the best or the fastest, but fun.

They did do an amazing job of photo shopping that Mustang in front of the S2000.
No where to pass safely on this tight road. So I was in front of him the whole way on this run, he was in front of me the whole way on the other run. We actually did 2 runs each way.

No clear winner here. Neither of us were able to pull too much away from the other. The tighter portions he would gain, the less tight my power would take over. I had enough handling to hang with him and he had enough power to hang with me.

Honestly, I thought he would dominate on such a tight course. The Mustang surprised me. Ford set up the live axle very well.

Biggest problem with the S2000 is the powerband is really high. You have to keep revs way up to stay in the power band. Torque is available all through the RPM range on mine. Most of the straights werer short. So I was able to come out of the tight turns and use my power quickly. If he lost momentum, he had a hard time getting back up before the next turn.

All in all, it was a lot of fun. We didnt switch cars. We decided not worth wrapping each others car around tree. If we were going to do that, we were going to wrap our own up. I have driven his many other times. It is a great car. Loads of fun.

This looked like a lot of fun man! Being that you have 2x more power I figured the S2000 would be no match.
95% of Ford's sold in the past 10 years are still on the road, the other 5% are at the track or offroad. lol
I'm sure the 5% of the Subaru's not on the road are somewhere rallying off-road too haha.

It's definitely a fun car to drive.

I love mine and I always get compliments every time I take mine out. :xyxthumbs:

The dragon is pretty tight. 318 curves in an 11 mile stretch. Average 30 curves per mile. They arent little curves either. It is a biker's paradise.

The light weight and handling of the S2000 has a definite advantage there. Had I not had the extra power, he wouldve schooled me. A regular GT with less power and softer suspension and regular brakes (mine had 14in discs with 4 piston Brembos) likely would not have hung with him.

If you ever make it to that part of the country (Eastern Tenn., Western NC), I recommend taking the time to visit that stretch of road.

Just a couple of comments regarding the American versus foreign debate - in particular Japanese.

First, for decades (30+ years) the US has had a trade deficit with Japan of between $50 and $100 BILLION per year. That's Billion with a "B". (Due to the Japanese tsunami, earth quake and nuclear disaster, the 2011 trade deficit will not be that bad.)

Second, according to a recent article in the WSJ, only 25 cents on the dollar stays in the US economy if a Japanese branded car is purchased. Alternately, if a US brand is purchased 75 cents on the dollar stays in the US economy. These figures took into account the "bolting together" of Japanese brands in the US and the fact that some US brands are "bolted together" elsewhere.

THE "BUILT IN AMERICA" ADVERTISING DONE BY JAPANESE MANUFACTURERS HAS BEEN A HUGELY SUCCESSFUL MARKETING GIMMICK. We did not get tens or hundreds of billions of trade deficit per year with Japan by buying toasters. It was cars.

It's also important to think about fair and equitable trade as opposed to just "Buy American". If another country is buying as much or more from us as we are from them, why not support them by buying some of their products? It's not about no trade with foreign countries. It's about fair and equitable trade. Fair trade and good competition is better for all of us. We have not had fair and equitable trade with Japan for decades.

Twenty or thirty years ago, heck even ten years ago, I completely understood why Americans would shun their own automobile brands. They were terrible. No excuses. Today, that difference is tiny if present at all.

In short, except for very specific specialty purposes, I would suggests we support our friends, neighbors and relatives as much as reasonably possible.

I just bought a 2012 Kona Blue Boss 302. I was previously anti mustang unitl I drove the new 5.0. It was not quite there for what I wanted but very close. After reading all of the positive Boss 302 reviews that said the car fixed all the complaints I had about the 5.0, mainly road feel, I went on a difficult quest of finding one to test drive. I bought one two days later. I had an 2002 WRX 310 awhp sold that and bought an e46 M3. I started shopping for new cars after I totaled up my maintenance and repair bill for the year of ownership of the M3 and broke it down monthly and saw that it was the equivalent of $950 a month car payment. I was planning on a used 996 turbo but after driving the Boss, I changed my mind. The new mustangs are a whole new animal.

I had my first track day in the Boss Saturday (not my first track day by any means) and it was bloody brilliant. It is the first car I have ever driven from the factory on the race track that did not need any changes to make it handle the way I wanted. It is perfectly neutral with a slight tendancy towards oversteer which is exactly what I wanted. I kept saying to myself that this solid rear axle car should not be able to do this.

How much are they asking for the STI? Last time I looked, they were in the high 30k range which in my opinion there are much better options at that price range. They used to be a baragain but I don't think they are anymore.

Yeah I agree the boss is probably the best car in the 40k price range. There was an earlier post in the thread about how the boss beat some high end cars, one being a Audi R8. The STI I was looking was 42k and I thought that was a little much(it was full packaged). I decided to go with a 2008 GT500. But I must say the boss is awesome, by the way that blue is one of my favorite colors!!
