New Car for Wife

I appreciate all of the comments. This car is the 2015 Q50s as I did not want the 2016 with the twin turbo. Turbo and Nissan seem like a bad combo but time will tell. My wife is picking the car up on Monday and will post some pics after detailing.

This will be our 3rd Infiniti as we had the G35X and I-30 previously.

Congratulations!!

I personally have driven nothing but Nissan's until my Genesis Coupe and drive a 2015 Rogue now and love it. All my Nissan's in the past were ultra reliable with minimal maintenance costs. None of them ever left me stranded.

Although I do remember having to pick up my buddy and his family in my Nissan Rogue because his brand new Grand Cherokee's transmission dropped out on him. LOL.

To all, I appreciate all of the comments on reliability. I expect this car will operate just fine.

The detailing will be fun for sure and plan to use all of my toys and products to detail this perfectly for my wife. I will add pics after the work is done over the next few weeks.

Nissan used to make decent cars after their first fiasco but Nissan's quality has gone down again leaves a lot to be desired in terms of quality and reliability and they are not doing so well.

Nissan was always two notches below Toyota and Honda in terms of quality and reliability.

You pull up any list for reliability and Customer satisfaction, Toyota and Honda tops the charts.

Nissan... never been there and not quite there yet if ever.

Infiniti used to make decent cars in that segment especially G35/G37 but Infiniti seems to have mucho problemo offsite with their sales and vehicles so much so that they have discontinued their best selling car, the G35/G37

Lexus is the undisputed king of that segment . Acura was ok for a while with their TSX & TL but ever since they morphed them into TLX and put in a 8 speed transmission with DCT, they seem to have lot of transmission/shifting issues. RLX is a pretty aged sedan. I do think given Honda's track record, they will get their act together at some point. Nissan is a long shot.

If you look at their bread and butter divisions, both Honda and Toyota models will eat the Nissans for lunch. Nissan quite doesn't have it.

Sorry dude, but Nissans are second rung cars compared to Toyota and Honda :-) On the luxury segment, the Lexus line blows away the competition. Neither Acura nor Infiniti comes anywhere close to Lexus.

Actually Nissan has even more tighter competition now with Mazda kicking ass with their 3 & 6 and I am quite impressed what Mazda has done with their 3 & 6 models.

Actually, the Mazda 6 isn't kicking any ass at all... As of last month [6/22/16] Only 19,000 Mazda 6 vehicles have been sold. Compared to 167,000 Toyota Camrys.

Here's another comparison: Kia has sold more than 150,000 Optimas in the USA in each of the past 4 years.

... The Mazda 6 isn't kicking any ass whatsoever.

My 2¢

1. Mazda is horrible. Dunno how their quality is, but they haven't made a car that wasn't just ugly in 20 years. I suspect that is why nobody buys them.

2. I daily drive a 16 yo Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 with 140k miles. Very reliable vehicle. Kills my friend's BMW X5 in the snow and for hauling stuff. I'm not in the position where I have to drive a car this old or with this many miles...

But, I like it because it's a real 4x4 vehicle - not an AWD vehicle - and because it's reliable. No amount of snow is able to slow this thing down.

3. Dunno about Infinity. While that sure is a nice looking car, I would be looking at a similar BMW with less bells and whistles for a luxury car. My BMW M is 8 years old and has had only one single problem - a DMTL valve went bad and the part cost me $74. Other than that - nothing in 8 years.

I do all my own repairs and maintenance on my cars.

Whenever you buy a complex luxury used car, just make sure it has a great and long lasting warranty with it - unless you have the skills to diag and fix it yourself. Because, if you have to pay to have these types of cars repaired it will cost you a fortune.

Hmm..let me clarify my statement again there. We are talking about reliability and build quality as the two factors.

Mazda's 3 & 6 are well engineered and well built cars and they have come quite a ways to building great cars. That 6 segment is a very tough segment to compete considering it has the two quintessential sedans that rule that segment, Camry and Accord. So sales numbers are not the criteria for quality and reliability.

Mazda also does not undercut Toyota and Honda's prices to stay in business. In fact both their 3 & 6 models are priced at or above the pricing of Corolla/Civic and Camry/Accord. Mazda scores pretty big in reliability and resale values as well. Camry has been the best selling car for over 2 decades now (except for the odd years they lost out by a few thousand to Accord) and Accord has been a perennial Car & Driver's 10 best.

I would not touch anything Kia makes with a 10 foot barge pole

Interesting you brought sales numbers to the argument and by that token, Lexus does not sell as many as Camry or Accord or the Kia Optima.

Nissan's quality and reliability is second rung compared to Toyota or Honda or even Mazda. And they are taking a huge hit on Infiniti with quality having gone down and have serious problems. I would not be surprised if Infiniti goes the way of Saturn and Eagle.

Name any car Nissan makes and I can show you a better option in that segment from Toyota and Honda.

And in the luxury segment, Lexus is leaps ahead of any other Japanese rival and they are taking the German rivals head on. And their reliability and rock solid quality is unsurpassed by anyone else in that segment.

Mercedes and BMW constantly come up on the doozy list in terms of reliability and problems. BMW's latest casualty is the 7 series.

How many times have you seen the LS & GS on the doozy list for reliability or quality? Never

When I first read the post I thought you traded the wife for a new car. Thought that would be a good read haha. I would buy whatever you like and if works great, if not then do not repeat. By the way I think that colour would be fun to detail. I would polish and wax a test spot and go from there.

My wife is getting the car tomorrow. We got the bank check for the down payment today.

I plan to work on the interior on Wed, then begin the detailing on the exterior over the weekend. The color should hide slight scratches but I will take my time. Will most certainly post some pics.

Oh, Nissan 370Z. Long in the tooth, but nothing out there to compare.

I think the color looks very rich, perfect for the car but check into that reliability issue. Maybe a Lexus GS can be had, similar car size wise and not the same issues with reliability.

Avoid the Q50. It's a fun and very responsive car, but be warned on its' reliability :)

Good luck on the new car. My wife has a 2014 Q50. Its our 4th Infiniti. Its a nice car, looks good and is really comfortable.
Ours was the first year for the Q50 so hopefully they worked out the issue we had. When turning there is a grinding noise, sounds like a bearing going bad or the brake pads/rotors are grinding. Its so bad that people riding in the car have said " do you hear that? " The service manager at the dealer rode with us and proclaimed " that's definitely not right" The dealer claims the tires are "rubbing" the wheels when turning at low speed, only thing that can be done is replace the tires with a different brand/style tires and Infiniti will not warranty the tires. OR spray WD40 around the bead of the tire every few thousand miles. yeah, right! We had 13,000 miles on the car when the noise started getting really really loud. Our argument is the tire depths are good and its a manufacturing defect, but Infiniti refuses to help. We would be understanding if they would prorate the warranty on the tire, but they will not help us one bit. So, this will be our last Infiniti.

also, the infotainment system takes FOREVER to boot up. I can start the car, put on my seatbelt, back out of the driveway, place car in drive and the infotainment system is still starting up. Cant change a/c, radio station, seat heater, etc. until this thing starts, very annoying. Theres just a lot of little things that are annoying about this car that hopefully have been resolved by the 2016s.

Good luck with your car!

My advice to you, if you hear a grinding noise coming from the front while low speed turning..... take it back immediately and have them replace the tires with a different brand.

That color will absolutely pop...love it. I am, however, with others on this thread....if it were me.....I'd go Lexus all the way....Lexus luxury + Toyota power = the best of both worlds.

So....the bottom line is you like Toyota and Honda lol!

Not everyone chooses a car based on reliability ratings. There's no doubt Honda & Toyotas are reliable.....but they are also mainstream and fairly boring to drive. I've had both, plus Infiniti, Saab, BMW, Acura, VW. My 2 Hondas & my Toyota were my LEAST favorite cars of the many I've had.

What do you suggest I use to protect and seal the chrome rims?

Was considering going with Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845 base then Fuzion.
