I have a buddy that ordered a new vehicle and it came in. The vehicle was special ordered and was not sitting on a dealer lot. Ordered and shipped start to finish in 7 weeks built for him.

My question is the finish is very nice no dealer hacks got to marrrrrr up the paint. Can this just have an IPA wipedown and a coat of Optiguard?? I am not sure how much more luster the paint will receive doing any jewling on the already blemish free paint. If in fact we go to the jeweling process it will be quick and light.

Please let me know your thoughts.... Thanks..:props:

Did this to a brand new Subaro BRZ a few months ago. Literally took the plastic off it. Even though it was flawless I went over it with optimum finish polish and the difference was huge. You might be surprised how much polishing will help even a brand new car.

You won't be hurting anything by not polishing though. I have non polished vehicles before a coating but usually it is worth the time to at least make a pass over it.

We received my wife's X3 in the plastic. It's white and since I peeled it in my garage, I gave it a good degrease wash, IPA and straight to Opti-Coat with no issues. If it were black (like the one it replaced) I probably would have done a light polish with 4500 just to get a little extra pop.

I just like keeping the clear coat so if something happens, I have a little more to work with.

My humble suggession would be to first wash it (obviously), then Must be Clayed (I understand its new, but still its a good idea to clay 1st.)

Comming back to your question.... Well, If i would've been in your place, i would've definately done a little polish to it. Jeweling makes alot of difference. Trust me you won't regret the effort.

Good Luck :props:

Do share the pics when done :Picture:

Thank you all for the heads up I guess the polish pass will be done and hopefully get some extra pop...!

Like Rayaz mentioned, a wash including some degreaser in with the wash solution would be a good idea for a few reasons. First being that there is often minor line damage in the factory, IE: light scuffs and scratches from assembly line workers doing their work. There is typically a guy or gal who addresses these issues with a polisher and some sort of compound or polish, and with this comes the potential for there to be fillers and or polishing oils on your paint coming out of the factory.

Nobody really knows if these fillers or oils are present, but I can tell you for sure that there will be adhesion or cross-linking issues if they are present and Opti-Guard is applied over them.

The possibility of fillers being present also presents an issue regarding the true finish of the vehicle. Remove anything that's there and you can have a true vision of the actual condition of the finish before coating it, but this still reverts back to my first point about polishing oils and or fillers causing bonding issues.

Someone mentioned claying too.

Do you know for sure if the vehicle was shipped via rail car? If so, there's likely some sort of ferrous metal contamination on the vehicle somewhere. If I had a vehicle right out of the factory, rather that risk scratching it with the use of clay to remove any ferrous metal contamination, I'd be thinking something like Iron-X instead. That's just me though.

Just a few thoughts for you buddy, and as always... If I can help you with the process just give me a call.

as Dave mentioned IRON X is a must to preserve clarity from the start

then I would clay

then do a light polish with M205

finally 2 IP wipedowns with 12.5⅝ SOLUTION..

OPTICOAT - 2-3 layers.. wiping 1-2 after each section pass... waiting 4 min between each layering

then gtg :props:

Wash thoroughly
Iron-x
Jewel with one of the new "nano" (marketing term) jeweling polishes that wipe clean, I've noticed that they all seam to be water soluble. I've had great success and am very impressed with the Gtechniq P2. You can think of this as not only jeweling but really a surface cleaner.
Do a very light distilled water spray wipe to make sure all polish is off.
Then do a light wipe with a dedicated alcohol based wipe like Gtechniq Panel Wipe, it has a mixture of alcohols that are easier on the finish than IPA. IPA can be harsh and a finish only 7 weeks or less old I would be delicate.

If your doing the Opti Coat 2.0 inside a garage, I would highly recommend doing a second coat/layer 48 hours later (do not drive). Just before doing the second layer do a distilled water spray and wipe to get any dust or residue off that might have collected. You might need a second tube, better to have it than not. Take your time. Between waiting for the second coat you can do the rims, take them off the car to do it right (Iron-x them too, brake dust is all over them. For an average car and rims you might want to get two large Iron-x bottles).

Keep in mind it will take 30 days for Opti Coat 2.0 to fully harden so be careful for the first couple of days. Once fully hardened that is it permanent.

I Do thank everyone that took the time to reply to my question. I guess I will trade off the time and send it to PA and have Mr Dave do the thing when he has time. It's a trade off me doing it or driving 400 miles having it done and returning home. I have found in business you need to cut your losses sometimes and farm projects out rather than take 4 times as long completing the finished product.

Again thanks for all the great info...:xyxthumbs:

B.B...

Thanks Bill. I got your phone message, I'll give you a call this weekend sometime. Be glad to set up a time to do it for you but I do know a guy in Mass. that could take care of it for you unless you're just looking to get out of Dodge for a minute.

I'd love to see you and maybe have dinner while you're here and I'll absolutely do the coating for you, but it sure is a long drive when you can have it done just a few hours down I-95 from where you are.

I love telling people that I have guys driving from all over the east coast for my services.Im the MANIm the MANIm the MAN:xyxthumbs:
