Where to start on day one of a new car to give it the best possible protection for the life of the car ? And I mean day one.

Polish , wax ? Just wax? Which and order to apply.

Also best protection to do for leather seats at this time?

Have not had a new car in twenty years and want to start off with best possible protection.
 
Definately don't count on the dealer doing it the right way. I'd start with a good wash and paint cleanser to remove everything. Then a good polish, then wax, then seal. I will let the pros chime in here though. I am still learning.

Get some optimum no rinse concentrate to make clay lube etc.

some DP or Mother's clay to remove overspray or any contaminants that have bonded to the paint while in the dealer lot

some OPC for general interior (including leather) & exterior cleaning/wax stripping

duragloss aquawax or finish kare 425 for use as a drying aid/wax refresher/quick detailer

ultima interior guard for your leather

You can go crazy with waxes but I'd keep it simple at first and go with some wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant (try it as a free sample) and collinite 845

Do you have a machine? If so, then you might want to get a fine polish like Megs M205 or Menzerna Super Finish for annual freshening.

First and foremost, read up on how to wash and dry your car properly (including tools like grit guards etc) or your car will look poopy in no time flat.

If you hav'nt picked up your new car yet (or are waiting for its arrival), I would instruct the dealer "not to touch the paint"; that means no washing, no high gloss tire shine ect ect...thats the first place to start.

Great advice.

Better to be pro-active and tell them, "Don't touch it" then to have to start a thread asking how to remove the Dealer Installed Swirl Option.

Start reading as much as you can on here. You'll learn a whole lot in a pretty short period of time. Keeping your car looking its best is about HOW you do it as much as what you use. You can use the most expensive products on the market in their respective catagories but if used wrong they can dampen the over all look or even cause damage is some cases.

1) Learn the basic steps, Mike Phillips has written about almost everything but theres good information all most everywhere on here

2) Get the basics after learning what you can

3) Practice what you have learned and have fun!

4) Repeat steps 1-3
