New Chemical Guys Signature Series

I wasn't saying those products are actually the same, it was just meant to be an example... I'm sure you knew it, but I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea.

The funny thing is, WG and BF pad cleaners seem much different to me. That's a perfect example. The BF seems to work much better.

And that just proves that the same ownership doesn't mean that different brands are the same thing in different bottles (at perhaps different price points). Just like Ford and Mercury, Toyota and Lexus, Nissan and Infiniti.

Or one of the worst offenders, Dodge/Plymouth (remember the Neon?)...

Most of these vendors don't manufacture the product. They have the manufacturer re-formulate and re-bottle based on their specifications.

I like CG but don't buy into the rebranding. I buy what I like and leave the rest alone. Have never ordered from them though, AG has all the stuff I need. Everything beyond that on the CG site is just a relabel.

Relabeling is the name of the game. Some are just better at it than others. You cant blame companies for doing it, but you can sure make fun of them for failing miserably at it.. I guarantee you every one of us, myself included, buys at least one relabeled product at least once a week, if not once a day. If AG does it, and its not an issue if they do, they do a very good job at it, much like the other companies that we buy relabeled items from without even knowing it. It's amazing how much presentation affects how we feel about a product. Remember green ketchup? Same exact product, but because it was green, people refused to buy it.

As long as they keep on making highly concentrated products that meet my needs on my vehicles and my wallet... They can call the products whatever they want and send it to me in empty milk jugs scribbled with sharpie for all I care!

Their website is a different story... that trainwreck gives me an instant headache every time I check it.

I don't care who owns them, who makes the stuff, if its repackaged, if it re-labeled, if its re-bottled from 50 gallon drums, if its the same as Adam's or Smart Wax, if its made by Warner Chemical, or if Chemical Guys is Warner Chemical.

Actually Adams stopped using Warner a long time ago for their chemicals.

Ever buy paint? There are only 5 manufacturers of paint in the world yet there are thousands of paint wholesalers and retailers selling "their brand".

Funny how that works.

I guess AG does have product overlap with Wolfgang, DP, BlackFire, and Pinnacle. But its done in a cohesive methodical way. Each line of has a mission, theme, and target - even if some claim some of the actual products are the same. If a few if the products are similar, most of them are not. I have a garage full of them so I should know.

Off-topic, but I'm of the opinion that AG could merge some of their product lines with minimal impact to diversity. Merge Blackfire and Wolfgang, as their premium synthetic line (in fact, the two lines used to be competitors, back when ProperAutoCare/CMA was still around); merge the XMT and DP brands, as their entry-level line; and keep Pinnacle as their premium natural/carnauba line. Well, I guess the variety of products, and the command of customer mindshare and hence additional sales, outweighs the costs of stocking and maintaining so many products.

Matrix Systems is one of them... I worked in the mixing department when they first started up...

While AG certainly could consolidate some of their product lines, but when it comes to brands, some people are so loyal they will buy that brand and that brand only, no matter how much you do to show them that the product is exactly the same. Take the Dodge/Plymouth Neon example, some people would only buy a Plymouth, even though the only difference was the badge they stuck on it at the end of the production line (I'm exaggerating a bit here). One of the benefits of multiple product lines is that it gives the buyer a range of choices - or at least the illusion of a range of choices, may that be the case. Additionally, from my understanding, AG acquired these different companies and their product lines instead of creating them from the ground up. While there is a net gain for AG, they can't exactly eliminate the brands they acquired as it may potentially alienate that brands customers. Some businesses see that as a risk not worth taking. Okay, enough of me rambling on...
