New Collinite quick detailer

520 may be more of a cleaner than a protectant. Kind of the opposite of today’s popular QDs (BSD for instance). For this reason it seems people are having trouble finding a great use for it since we all use WWs like it pours from the sky.

I’m a huge Collinite fan and was hoping this would be a purdy, couple week protection QD at minimum. But I still love you Collinite (Go UTICA!!!)
We all use WW's like it "pouring from the sky" because especially when bought in gallon size have enough to make our own "QD" so cheaply that it just doesn't make sense or cents to buy a designated QD but if you want to do this, it is still America, even California

Thanks guys! That kinda sucks to hear... It would be neat if it was something like a watered down wax ( bad choice of words.... ) like Optimum spray wax.

Ill post my pics this time tomorrow.

If it doesn't meet my standards, lesson learned.

Wouldn't be the first time. Lol

To those that are using water-beading to
determine if a QD leaves behind some
level of protection, or not: Please explain.

TIA.

I’ll combine lack of water beading plus multiple observations of no added shine being noticed to come to the conclusion that this does not offer decent protection and/or the type of protection I am looking for given it:
1) Doesn’t appear to inhibit any type of water behavior and therefore the benefits (self-cleaning, good looks during rain)
2) Doesn’t add any noticeable gloss

Therefore, I will draw upon my own experiences and desires to determine that this is not what I was hoping it was and will pass on this one product for my own personal use.

Ok, so these are the pics from this morning. Taken as it just started raining.

You can clearly see where the 520 has changed the tight beading.
(I applied this to the first 16-18” of the entire front of the hood).

This pic is from about 3:00 after it had been pouring most of the day.

Looks like the beading has returned.

Did the 520 wash away? Did it “normalize” itself into the 476?

Not sure.

This picture tells the story, period! I guess my questions are, who in the hell did the beta testing and were we expecting too much from this product because its from one of the most underrated brands out there???

Yeah, I'm kinda bummed Rog. All arguments over beading/sheeting etc. aside, I really LIKE my beading! Lol

Well I agree but the thing about this picture is it really does show what it did to what you had on the vehicle already.

Yeah. Funny how it returned after 8 hours. I'm guessing (maybe hoping) it washed away.

Either that, or the 476 had had enough of this "imposter" and sent it packing. Lol

Paul,

•From the pictures it appears that #520’s
surfactant(s) are very good at reducing
the amount of surface tension between
the hood and the existing water-beading.

-But that is the job of surfactants.
[Reviewers have stated:
‘it is a very good cleaner’.]

Even though it’s advertised/described as
producing a unique bead and sheet shine,
perhaps #520’s surfactant(s) “overpowers”
(too much of) the Collinite Wax that’s in
the bottle.

•If that’s the case, then IMO:
-Collinite should either immediately update
#520’s product description—regarding the
“enhancing your wax look and durability”
sections— and forwarding the update to
all of its distributors;
-or, respond to the observations, concerns,
and any other issues brought forward in this
thread, in a reasonable time-frame.

•But if, as you said:
-‘All arguments over beading/sheeting etc.
aside, I really LIKE my beading’!...

-then #520’s attribute of: a unique bead and
sheet shine, may not fit the bill.

I'm sure this product isn't "Junk".

But, I just hate to see my beloved beading affected "negatively" (In my eyes).

Flawed thinking? I'm sure it is, given my track record. Lol

The 520 will not be wasted though. I am not as particular about beading on machines such as my riding mower..... :)

I'm guessing as with with other QD's, this can be used as a drying aid?

I've used it as a drying aid, works pretty good. I've used it standalone after drying the vehicle with a different drying aid and it plays well with other products. I've also used it after drying with no aids, basically as a once over to amp up the shine. TBH, works pretty good.

Outside of this thread which seems to have stalled out...have others been using it?

A year later, I will say I tried the 520 a few more times before I gave up on it.

Used it on my riding mower last summer, left it in the shed over the winter (forgot about it) and this spring I just whipped in the outgoing garbage.

Pains me to say this because I am a dyed in the wool Collinite fan, but the 520 was a huge swing & miss IMO.

I used my bottle for hitting spots after a wash where the water would run out and dry, worked pretty good for that
