New Detail shop booming

Sounds exciting! I went from mobile to having a shop just about two years ago and it's been crazy busy ever since! Now I have the shop AND back out with a mobile van as of last September for car washes only. Word of mouth is the best advertisement. It's the greatest help and it can be the greatest hurt. You're going to have to have some help in the shop eventually, but make sure YOUR quality goes out with EVERY job. Facebook posting has been a big plus, as well. Folks like to see the before and after. Something we're starting next week is putting a Thank You postcard in every job that leaves that has a short survey to fill out on the back. It'll be worth the $.20 stamp when they'll send it back.

Keep up the good work!

Keep up the good work!

I make it a point on every car I work on to be inspected at least twice, just to make sure nothing was missed.
One of my goals is to have repeat customers which I've been having for a year now.

As for help, well I know it's just a matter of time, just have to make sure the person I hire loves detailing, not just about getting a check.

Congrats Kevin!

Sounds like thing are going very well with your new shop! Here's to wishing you continued success.

Congratulations Kevin on the new shop and your success.

From experience when hiring, it's usually been better to hire someone with no detailing experience. That way you can train them the way you want it done.

I saw this at another detail shop that I was visiting out of state and thought it was a good starter idea.

congrats on your success! Do you have a website? Also, any type of marketing prior opening shop? Thanks.

I do have a website, IMO it doesn't do much for me as Facebook does.

A few weeks ago I had a promotion on Facebook, the promotion was if anyone shared my page they'd be in a drawing for a free $175.00 detail, that's when my business really took off.

Putting some before and afters really makes your business "Boom"
I have people that share a lot of my work:dblthumb2:

That's true.

I have a guy who was a master detailer years ago, in fact he's the one who trained me on how to detail and also how to use a rotary.
I called him to see if he would work for me as needed, he said yes, so I have backup help when needed.
He's retired now but still has it for detailing. :dblthumb2:

Thank you very much Mike, you explained it very well.

Pick up on second ring?
That's a problem I'm having right now, I have the LG G2 phone, you have to tap it twice to wake it up, it doesn't fair well when my fingers are wet.
Only thing I can think of is to start wearing rubber gloves, that way I can remove them quickly and answer my phone.

Get a Bluetooth

I agree.

I personally can't stand holding a phone when talking any more. For the last 5+ years I've owned 3 Plantronic Blue Tooth Headsets and highly recommend them. Most of these thing I find hard to keep on my head/ear but not the Plantronics.

Plus, the technology is amazing. People can hear you clearly even if you're driving a convertible or running a buffer. Lots of features with these units too...

Currently I have the Plantronics Voyager...
