New detailer and member. Getting my arsenal together.

Hey guys, I've been lingering around here for some time reading up and gaining knowledge. I've been hobby detailing for about 2-3 years and have done many cars, both personal and for buddies. Now after much time of reading and gathering info and listing out products, I'm ready to build a nice team of products, and start getting paid for detailing. I want to invest in some good product, and as time goes start investing in more and more product, tools, etc. I don't plan on living from detailing but doing a couple cars a week would be nice.

So having said all that mumbo jumbo, I will be ordering a flex 3401, brushes, LC pads, etc. Problem comes to actual detailing materials. I was thinking of going all Meguiars, and get a good range to suit most of what I will go against, or get a range of Menzerna. My question is: am I starting wrong by going all into only one brand?

As I do more details and get some $$$, I will definitely buy different product and start experiencing new stuff, but to start is it ok to get stick to just one brand?

While Megs pro line is a good cost affective line for production work and is what I use myself! There are many great products out there and its trial and error to find the greatest! ( Thats where the addiction comes in) the good thing is you Joined the best forum to get the best info to help with those decisions.

First you need to identify what you need for products and what type of prices you want to set for your customers. If you are working with premium pricing, then you can use higher end products; but if you wish to do cheaper details, your products need to represent this. The meguiars line has everything you will need for a full detail, but there are better products in many categories than what megs offers. Menzerna has IMO the best polishes on the market. Ultima IMO has the best dressings and sealant. Megs IMO makes the best APC's and P21s the best wheel cleaner. Duragloss IMO has the best car wash soap and glass cleaner (repel).

Many people will differ on my views, but most will agree that no single brand has the best of everything and that the best results come from a combination of products from different brands.

Wow guys thanks for great feedback. I am already a bit addicted to keeping my car stupidly clean, and as I look at product more and more I want all of them! Especially so I can custom tailor my prices to the customer. I'll be looking into the info you guys gave me here and just learn, learn, learn.
