*NEW* DP Tire Coating & DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer

Thanks everyone.

I only used the Westley's Bleeche-White tire cleaner for the initial cleanings as it has always cut through the cruddy cheap tire dressings most people have caked on their tires. I don't know the history of the tires for their first year/8000 miles so I thought something strong at first was a good idea. I almost used the Zep Purple Industrial cleaner first as that was one the best tire cleaners I ever tried. I used it for several months on numerous cars until someone clued me in on the MSDS for that product and on how truly 'industrial' it is. The following cleanings were with the DP Tire cleaner and they did not bring up any dirt except for a little bit around the outer corner edge the first time. I was getting white foam.

If it's because the tire compound of these tires is not a good match then I'm fine with that and maybe us, as members, should keep a running log of tires that did not work well with the DP Tire coating as a reference for everyone. It totally makes sense to me that there would be some tire compounds that would not absorb and bond to the coatings. I'm quite familiar with how different tires will look totally different using the same dressing.

So I've decided to wait until next weekend to give the OC on the wheels a bit more time to fully harden. What would be the best way to remove the existing failed coating? Is the DP cleaner designed to easily remove the coating the same way that the TW cleaner removes their coating?

I am hoping that it is a temperature thing. The first 2 tires I did the temp was not bad at around 55 degrees. The next weekend when I did the next 2 tires it was colder probably in the 40's. I was using an infrared heater to warm the wheels prior to applying the Opti-Coat and for about 1 hour afterwards for each of the 3 layers I did. I thought about warming up the tire rubber first too. But the first tire looked like it worked fine and dried in that 10-15 minute window that the product description advises so I continued.

I am fan of DP products. I have at least dozen of them in my cabinet and they are all good products. However, as we all know every company is capable for producing a dud or over promising. I have about $3000 worth of products sitting in my cabinets to attest to that. I kept putting off trying the Tuffshine products because there were numerous stories about in being a PITA and finicky to use. I've been watching the threads about the TW tire coating and it still sounded like the development of these tire coating products were still a work in progress. The DP Tire coating sounded like they may have figured it out and made it easy to use so I gave it a shot reassured due to the DP reputation.

It seems with Tuff Stuff you have to use their cleaner and a lot of it, now we're hearing the same with DP. It makes me wonder why TW isn' t as strict but get superior results

I've used the TW cleaner as well as Bleache-White w/o an issue when using the TW tire coating. That said, once I use my DP tire kit, I'm using everything in the kit for sure as I've got high expections for it

After driving some more and using a dry Mother wheel/tire brush to gently rub off the flaking coating I've come to realize that it was the 2nd & 3rd layers that came off. The initial layer is still there. It is a little blistered and has a bit if brown tinged to it's but mainly intact. So I guess that means that it wasn't a dirty tire that caused the coating to fail then? Perhaps it was the temperature being too low for the DP Tire coating to bond to itself then?

Nick @ AG. Thanks for the offer to replace the coating that I used, but that's not necessary. It's my mistake. I just want to figure out how to use it correctly. Also, is the DP Tire cleaner the best method to remove the existing coating?

Yeah, temp is very important for applying these coatings for sure! Speaking of temps, it's ZERO right now👈

Well I have waited about 3.5 months to try to recoat my tires with the DP Tire Coating. The initial layer that I applied back in December was still there. It didn't look that great because of the 2nd/3rd layer blistering off. But the tires stayed clean all winter and washed up easily. We had temps over 65 degrees over the weekend, so I decided to remove that initial layer and recoat. I only used the DP Tire Cleaner this time. I cleaned the tires 4 times. I only produced brown dirty foam on the first cleaning. I still did it 3 more times because the cleanliness of my tires was in question when I coated them back in December.

On Monday afternoon I applied 3 layers with about 30 minutes in between. This stuff is really easy to apply.

I have put about 50 miles on the car since then and there has been no peeling of the coating this time. The tires have a nice dark black look to them. Somewhere below what I would call a semi-gloss. They went through some rain on Tuesday morning and still look fine.

I know that it lasts based on my first time using it. Now I'll have to see how long the nice look lasts.

I applied my initial coats of DP tire coating last month on a brand new set of tires. I drove around that day and then cleaned them with the provided cleaned. I applied 2x's and then another coat the following day, the car sat and didn't move during the process. When I drove the car it seemed to pick up dirt and start Browning. I then cleaned the tire again and re-applied and that's it. The initial look is very nice and stays above matte and still looks good but the sheen factor goes away quicker it seems than my other tire coating that I've used, not on these tires, TW tire coating.

We will see how it goes.

I got about a month out of the tire coating. I applied it late in the fall. Wasn't that impressed. I felt like I scrubbed the crap out of the tires to get out all the previous stuff. Suds and foam from the DP tire cleaner was white, and the tires basically passed the white glove inspection before application.

I'm going to give it another round on my wife's car this weekend. Maybe it's better this time of year.

When I applied the TW to my winter tires it was just warm enough per their directions and even through the winter we had, at the end they looked new, no sheen or mattness (new word) but that's saying a lot.

Temp is critical for application with these coatings so I'm going to hold off before I make a final decision on DP.

So after I applied a cost of DG #105/601 this morning I decided to do a quick wipe of the sidewalls. I sprayed DG QD onto my mf towel, not Bleache-White and wiped and guess what....DIRT CAME OFF! This is after 1 day of applying TW tire coating too. I believe these tires, with their deep slate on the sidewall, hold a bit more dirt than my previous tires. Upon further review, this is why I was using Bleache-White becaue I thought the DP was holding dirt when in fact it was sidewall design.

I should also mention the tires weren't dirty looking either but I just wanted to even things out since I was in the zone doing everything else on the car.

I know now to NOT use Bleache-White every time I see remnants of dirt but rather my DG QD for this, does the same thing without being so harsh.

Sorry to DG Tire Coating😯

I applied a cost of DP fire coating yesterday after cleaning the tires with the (im)famous BLEACHE-WHITE. I had switched back to TW but after giving them a good brush cleaning where they still had a nice, matte sheen I said "what the heck, why not try some DP again?" so I did.

Now I know there's the base of TW laid down, about 5x's but the good cleaning evened things out and we'll see how it does, someone had to try this, why not me😄

This is the LF wheel on my Tundra which hasn't been washed in 3 months. Used DP tire cleaner with TS brush and the tire is very clean. Today is my first time using it and I'm impressed.

After almost a month I decided to re-fresh my DP tire coating, I did this because our 2nd Supercar Saturday is coming up this weekend. I should let you guys know the DP tire coating still looked great.

Once again I would like to apologize for ripping this product because it was holding dirt or so I thought it was, product is doing its thing well :props:

I am now down to about 3 oz of the 16 oz bottle of the DP Tire Coating. I have applied it several types of tires. I have had the most trouble with Bridgestone Potenza tires. Something is in that tire compound that is keeping the coating from sticking I think. It has been hit or miss with the Michelin Pilot tires also.

I have the DP Tire Coating on all three of my car's tires (Michelin, Kelly, Cooper) and it has performed great. I have added a new layer after about 1.5-2 months just to get that new look again.

One big issue that I am having is as my 16oz bottle becomes emptier with more air in the bottle, the coating is skinning over. Can't tell if is drying up the sides of the bottle or film is developing on top. I started noticing more and more chunks coming out of the bottle. Shaking it really hard for a few min helped some. It started leaving dry chunks onto the tire. I placed a piece of plastic window screen mesh over the top of the bottle and put the cap back on to try to capture those chunks. That helped.

But there is just too much air in the bottle.

I will buy the DP Tire Coating again. Buying a big bottle again will most likely end up doing the same thing, so I am planning on decanting the entire 16oz bottle into 4oz smaller bottles to try to prevent this from happening.

Just an FYI for everyone.

Can't say I've had the same issue with my DP fire coating.

On a sidenote I can say this product has been working great for me!
