Hey, new cat from Mississippi. I'm a car nut I've had a couple camaros and about 15 corvettes, 1965-2006, I currently have a 1984 Corvette for rainy weather driving, a 1991 ZR-1 and 1995 ZR-1 for good weather driving.
My wife says I drive like a wild man but what does she know.
I do like to speed a little. I've joined here because I've wet sanded my red 91 about two years ago, never had done a whole car, it looks pretty slick so I decided to wet sand my 95, it's Black,
it looks ok but I still have some swirl marks. I've always been a shiner so now I need help. Don't forget I'm from Mississippi so you'll have to go slow with any help.

Welcome! Whereabouts? I have been in Starkville/Tupelo area a lot since inlaws live there.
 
Like I said I'm a little slow, I'm in North MS, Olive Branch, about eight miles south of Memphis.
 
Welcome to AGO Randy! I visited the Delta (Clarksdale) this past Halloween weekend on a bit of Blues heritage trip. Loved Red's Blues Club and the Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan!

Are you sure the swirls are bad enough to require wet sanding? I guess first off what tools do have? Rotary, DA, pads, compounds, polishes etc?

I wet sanded the car to remove factory orange peel the swirls are left after I've compounded the car and used 3M Perfect-It with a 7 inch Makita rotary polisher.
 
Welcome! Are you very experienced with a rotary? If not, you may want to consider a DA. Don't mean to offend, but hard to know where people's experience lies. Btw my experience is ZERO. But I have a GG6 DA ordered. I've done a ton of research on AG, and I learned that a rotary isn't always the best place to start (or finish).

nice collection,why are you leaning to sand rather then a nice correction?

I don't have a lot of experience with rotary, I used it on the red car, in the picture, after wet sanding it, and it turned out ok i did burn through on a couple very small places on the corners, not real noticeable down low.
My main thing now is trying to get the swirl marks out of the black car.
I've got most of them out but I'm Real Picky and you know how black is.

kinda hard question here,what kinda of swirls deos it have halograms or self inflicted by washing and wiping.

I guess they are swirl marks from my buffing if that makes sense. I'm using swirl remover but maybe I need to use it a few more times. Like I said they're not real bad but outside in sunlight they're somewhat visible.
Maybe I'm being too picky. Most people say they don't see what I'm talking about. I'm not stressing just looking for pointers.

corvettes are kind of a challenge do to hard clearcoat.without any machine polishing doing it by hand will not remove swirl marks especially on hard clearcoat.personally the best advice would be to use a wax to conceal the swirl marks.

Most people don't see what most of us on here see. Are you using foam or wool on the rotary? Can you get a picture of the swirls so we have a better idea of exactly what your working with? It sounds like you may want to try a DA. With today's pads, compounds, and polishes you should be able to get the finish your looking for and a lot less chance of burning through paint.

Gonna have to spend some money on products and a da,once you have it down it will be worth it .
