Sold my other suv that had a bunch of goodies on (03' V8 Mountaineer), so I'm driving my other truck I still have (00' V8 Mountaineer). Got bored of not hearing that ripping V8 exhaust note so made a call to CGS and muffler came today along with custom intake. Was driving my mom's 05' LX470 a couple months ago, got bored as well, and went and had a dual exhaust installed, she didn't know till she started it up one day lol :D

Will try to get vid clips up, CGS mufflers blow away any other brand I've heard in sound, and believe me I've heard a lot with family being involved in car/boat racing.

Are they only available for SUV's? Bah, what am I asking for, hardly anyone makes anything for t-birds! Well maybe someone else is interested.

I don't know, their mufflers are custom made, check www.CGSmotorsports.com , if your into the whole truck show thing (I'm talking the ones with ton's of $$ invested), damn near most are running CGS systems.

You have a V8? Didn't V8 Birds or at least later ones have a factory dual exhaust with x-over like Stangs? Pry just get a single in/out muffler for each side?

I don't think I have x pipes, I think I remember reading that they are in the H design. Muffler idea is good for the sound, but I'm thinking about a whole cat-back to improve flow. We will see, but definitely good site.

EDIT: Wow, just listened to the sound clips. SOUNDS SOOO MEAN!! I like it a lot!

Should have heard my other truck with the 4.6 modular. Headers, intake, removed rear cats, true duals (2 CGS mufflers) and mandrel bent piping. Forget all those redneck sounding pickups runing around with just Flows lol, friggen truck sounded like a 4.6 Cobra :righton:

Good thing about the 5.0 in my 00' is Ford basically combined Cobra 5.0 parts with the 5.0 GT motor. Even stock has a throaty sound and decent cam lope when opened up.

The mountaineer has a 5.0? Wow, that's cool. I bet your other truck was a beast. Remember to drive safely man, the noise makes me want to drive fast and I just got a speeding ticket a couple months back! I got to stay clean until my 18 months are up!

My 00' does (except our 5.0's are combo'd Cobra/GT motors), my 03' had the modular 4.6. I almost swapped in an 03' Cobra engine and KB twin-screw blower:D. Guy down in Miami had a 347 and blower with over 600 rwhp in his Explorer, got banned from Moroso for no roll cage lol. Motors out and now going TT's, looking for low 10's/high 9's in a daily driver suv:righton:

meh, forgot the shop was closed on the weekend:(. Gotta wait a couple days. Trust the mom and pop type shop more, Meinike and other chains can suck a nut, got qouted 450+ to just run piping. Made the guy feel like an idiot once I pointed out my family is in car/boat racing and put him in his place on engines/exhaust lol. "it's a lot of work blah blah blah, too hard to go around the spare" . Please, give me a pipe bender and 10 minutes and I'll lay it around for you, lazy ass :D. I did a custom exhaust will new headers, no cats and true duals on my other truck, and that one had a tight IRS rear, and their gonna tell me this one with a live axle is "complicated" LOL. I got the same remark from the "chains".

Was this a biege colored Explorer with a cobra hood?? And yes the explorer/mountaineer has not gt-40 heads but gt40p heads from 97-00 maybe 01 as well. The GT40p heads are slightly better then the GT40 heads due to the relocation of the spark plug angles and I believe small CC's as well 60cc instead of gt40 65cc.

Ahhh you know Bill? I remember when he had a guy with a ZO6 on the bottle who declined to race him lol. Yeh trucks being worked on, going for a rebuild on the 347 if I recall but with a custom TT setup this time. I wish I went through with the 03' Cobra motor swap and KB blower into my 03' Mountaineer but truck would have been down for the count for awhile and I needed it almost daily so.....

No actually I remeber seeing that Explorer at some car shows (Fudruckers). Actually I worked at the Ford dealer ship (Homestead in 99 or 2000) that sold him the 96 cobra hood that they were going cut the nostruals(sp?) off and welded it onto the hood he had. He gave us a peek at the motor and man what a SUV.

It's a bad mofo, you know you have a fast suv when a ZO6 on the bottle won't race you :D . Last I heard, with the 347 and TT setup, their looking for low 10's, high 9's in adaily driver suv lol. Their shop was who I was going to be the guniea pig for when we were talking about doing the swap in my other truck.

Here's an old pic at Moroso:

Yup thats the one man what a monter that thing was scracth that IS. Last I heard of that monster years ago it was in the mid 11's, they have skills. A few buddys of mine are going to Moroso's Ford Power Festival at Moroso in Oct and going to see if I can make the trip down and maybe that beast will be there.

Last he ran at Moroso was about 5 or so years ago, he got banned, they weren't very happy about a suv going that fast with no roll cage (let alone durring the whole Explorer/Firestone thing lol). The mid 11's was on the old setup, think it was about 490 rwhp and trapped a 118, he even ran 11's hitting the brake so he wouldn't be kicked out (still was lol). With some new tuning etc, he was north of 600+ rwhp and tq, and now he's looking to run low 10's/high 9's with the new setup. He has the roll cage installed and racing seats, talk about a "sports" utility vehicle:D

Cool truck/suv, and usually I am not a truck/suv kind of guy. So it takes cool ones for me to like. i.e. that one, lightning

Well got it on, shop did an excellent job. Exactly what I wanted, and the bends were done perfectly. These guys know how to use a pipe bender unlike 90% of most exhaust shops. Has a pipe exiting at the rear angled to the side behind each tire (cut little notches in the bumper), so the tips are kinda tucked in and not really sticking out, just what I wanted.

The sound...wow. Extremely deep and low, and the exhaust isn't broken in yet. On the 03' V8 Mountaineer I had after a month or so the exhaust got even deeper and more burbly (anybody that's heard Fords modular motors knows that watery/burble I'm talking about). But on the 5.0 it has the tone their known for.

Truck screams at full throttle with the intake/exhaust now, I'm gonna have to try to get some vid clips up

You lucky man. :) I love that "burble" that 5.0s are known for. Can't wait for those video clips!
