Was planning to coat it using PBL Diamond Surface Coating and using the prep polish. My concern is using the prep polish on the brushed aluminum plate on the tail gate. I'm afraid it will change the appearance even though it has no correcting ability. Do you think this is the case? If so I would do an IPA wipe down on that part.

Your best bet would to test it in an inconspicuous spot first. Maybe the bottom of the metal and just see if there's any problems with it. Then once you know either way you can take the correct course of action.

I dont know why it would change the appearance. It most likely has a clearcoat similar to the paint. Like mark said test in a inconspicuous area first and go from there. They used something similar on some Fords back in the 90's. I have lightly polished those with absolutely no problems.

whatever you do dont back into anything with that truck. I would guess that tailgate costs around $4000? I would also always have it locked or put a tailgate lock on it. Stealing tailgates is a big thing now days. That is assuming this truck is yours.

Good point!
