New Flex Tool XFE 7 - 15mm Long Stroke Free Spinning Orbital Polisher

Is this similar to the 3401 forced rotation but with a 15 throw? I know they had another model on display at Sema as well. Car looks great Mike and knowing flex, another great tool to get.

Nope, the XFE is free spindle, like a PC or Rupes. The XCE is a quieter forced rotation device, like the 3401.

So the XCE it is. Waiting on price. Awesome news from Flex. Thanks for the update Mike and Evan.

Hey guys. Got to ask the Flex guys some questions at SEMA. Most of it has already been answered in this thread, so I'll just stick to the stuff that's new.

The XFE 7-15 150 is an all new free-rotation dual-action polisher with a throw of 15mm and is one of two new polishers introduced by Flex at SEMA 2015 (the other being the forced-rotation XCE 9-8 150). It will be available for preorder by many vendors in Feb 2015 and delivery will start Feb/Mar 2015. Prices have not been set but they say it will be close to the 3401. The number that was kicked around was $380, unofficially.

Here's some pics for ya.

Great point, will the Flex copy of a long throw free spinning da get the love the other copies of the Rupes have? :buffing:

LMAO...you trying to stir the pot??? It's not made in China so maybe we'll be ok.

Subscribed, has anyone been able to retrieve technical stats at SEMA, such as: opm, watts, warranty

The prototype plate says 120V, 8.6A => 1000W
And 1800-5400 opm

Dunno about the rest

Okay so the two new polishers will be offered alongside the 3401 and PE-14?

Each of the 4 machines catering for a different market?

I'd day each of the different machines catering to a different need.

It's less about the single perfect tool and more about the best tool for the job.

That's why it's nice to have options. Most pros start out like everyone else on earth and thats' working by hand including yours truly.

Then comes the day when we purchase our first polisher. For me it was a rotary buffer because this was back in the 1980's and we didn't have all of these tool options available. Then, as new tools are introduced and pros or people that buff cars for a living will add more tools to their collection.

Enthusiasts and weekend detailers also go down the same path... that is they start out working by hand and then purchase their first polisher. If they're happy with the performance of their choice then maybe that's all they need, especially if they're only taking care of their only daily drivers. If the desire for another polisher is strong or there's a need then at least they have choices today that we didn't have years ago.

And I don't think there will ever be a single tool that can do it all but instead the right tool for the job.

Great info on these machines. I can't wait to get my hands on one to check out, hopefully at Mobile Tech Expo. The XFE looks to be the next tool in the toolbox. Glad to hear how smooth both models run and that the XCE direct-drive runs cooler.

I have 6 classes on Thursday, that's what Mobile Tech calls their "Education Day".

One of these classes will feature the new XFE 7 so when the schedule is public please feel welcome to attend the class.

Normally I'm at Mobile Tech for Thursday, Friday and Saturday but this year I'm leaving after the Thursday classes for a flight out to California as we're filming a car for Competition Ready for the AMBER awards.

Bob Eichelberg and Cris Metcalf from Flex will be at Mobil Tech to answer questions and we should have at least one demo unit at the Autogeek booth for you to test out.

This will be a great tool for buffing out larger panels both flat and curved. It worked perfect with the Nanoskin Autoscrub pads as well as the foam cutting, polishing and waxing pads.

For thin panels you'll still want and need a smaller pad and thus a tool that can use smaller pads.

:)

you said quieter?!!? you had me at that.. any videos of this machine in action?

The exact reason I was kinda hoping for a smaller 3401 that takes 3" pads, but hey, a dude can still hope. I suppose the PE8 fills that void fine, though. Still, the XCE is gonna find a home with me eventually.

Thanks for that info Mike. I've seen the Education Day on their site, will keep a look out for that schedule as I'm sure the seminars fill up quickly.

There is not enough hype around this product. Why people are more excited about revised Rupes DAs over this makes no sense to me.

Someone's gona do a side by side test on all the 15's on offer and whichever stalls the least will be the new hyped item for some time to come. The 3401 guys will just sit back and chuckle as their pads keep on rotating.

Most people see this as "Just another large throw machine."

once this and the XCE get into the hands of people they will see there is a difference and the XCE is a nice update to the 3401 line :props:

I couldn't agree more!

This new machine from Flex isn't "evolutionary" (as Rupes has called the new MkII lineup), but more revolutionary. :dblthumb2:

Now there is another tool coming from Rupes that is revolutionary... the iBrid that is very small, (looks like a power ratchet) and runs 1" & 2" pads. It'll do rotary, 3mm & 12mm orbit on the fly. But the coolest part is that it's both battery AND cord powered.

Oh BOY first quarter of 2016 looks to be a time to spend on new tools. :D

Long live the 3401, three cheers to the king! :D

I'm with you though on the side-by-side/shootout. ;)

That is EXACTLY what I'd (and I suspect several thousand others) would like see. (Short of having to pay a few hundred bucks to attend a class/boot camp etc. for the privilege.) ;)
