Hi Everyone,
My name is Joe, and I'm from Central New Jersey (Union County). I have always been a car nut, and most of my friends think that I'm a little crazy for spending so much time detailing our cars, but hey, they sure look sweet ! My wife drives a '09 Lincoln MKS, cinnamon in color, a real sweet ride, and presently, I am driving a '06 Explorer Limited, color being dark stone. I'm looking to get a Lincoln MKX, have more investigation on them, but they do look nice.
Found this forum, thought that I would get some good tips from others. Right now, I'm
looking into a new wax, considering Autoglym, Optimum Opticoat, and Cquartz nano. I've been using clay bars for years, and have been using Meguiars Gold Class, and Mothers Synwax.
Good shine out of them, but they don't seem to last too long. My cars do not see car washes, do them myself, even in the winter.
Will post pictures soon.

Hey Joe, :welcome: To Autogeek Online! :props:

Autogeek is the one-stop-shop for all your detailing needs, questions, and answers...

I'm working in NJ this week!!

Hey, fellow Jerseyan! I'm one county over. Yes that Opti-Coat is definitely tempting, but there are plenty of conventional products that are way better than the OTC waxes you've mentioned.

Do you do any machine polishing or do you work by hand?

Welcome! I'm also from NJ, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

I'm strictly BY HAND on our cars. They are always in pristine condition, that way I am.
Thinking about trying Autoglym, looking for something that will really give me a good 3+
months protection. CQuartz nano looks tempting, but I'm kind of leary using ISP and dawn to strip old waxes off the car, especially my wifes MKS.

Just curious as to what your favorite wax is ? I'll clay bar the cars in another month, to
remove "winter crud", if there even is any on the cars. Had my wife's MKS in for service at
the dealership the other day, and een the salesman said the car looks like brand new, even though it is 2 1/2 years old already. I'm just anal with the cars, gotta keep them looking better than new. My wife's sister lives right near you, she's over in Milltown. Will
be going down there on Sunday.

I really like Collnite 845, its very durable and will give the car an amazing shine also. You can order it here on AG its not expensive and will last easily 3 months with beading.

Thanks for the reply, I'll have to give this serious consideration. Some people are raving
about Autoglym, but I'd like to see input on durability, since price is around $50. I usually,
after winter, clay bar, polish, then wax. Any suggestions on a tire dressing that's not too
greasy? - more of a water based one?

Wal-Mart was selling the Autoglym HD wax for $35, but no one buys a $35 wax at Wal-Mart, I heard they were blowing it out for $20. As Slickooz says, Collinite 845 is good stuff so is the Collinite 476S (paste), that's usually good for about 6 months, and with either of them you don't have to worry about staining trim.

I like the Optimum tire dressings a lot (Optimum Tire Shine and Opti-Bond gel), the Duragloss #253 is good also. The Opti-Bond is incredibly NOT greasy.

What are you using for polish?

I had a couple of AutoGylm but I returned all 5 of them because I had 3 for myself already. You might be able to find some at Wal-mart in Edison that where I returned all 5 of them. I got them at 20 a piece.
