Hey hows it going my name is Lee im 20 and from north jersey. Now ive owned a 2008 nissan frontier for about four years now and i mean i have it waxed once a year i take it through a carwash once or twice a week i love a clean truck. Now i know the carwash is HORRIBLE for the paint the truck is already shot seeing as it goes through so often, BUT i just bought myself a 2013 Subaru BRZ. i refuse to bring it though a carwash i want to do everything myself but looking through the forum there is soo much to learn! im even scared to wash the thing! i dont want swirls. can some one point me in the right direction of where to start to learn how to do things the right way? thank you im looking forward to learning from all of yall!!!

Welcome to the forum, currently you have a car that has swirls, the best way to minimize this when washing is use two buckets with the grit guard insert in each, these pieces trap dirt and minimize swirls, I reccomend buying these direct from autogeek

Welcome to Autogeek Online Lee!

I would highly recommend getting Mike Phillips' Art of Detailing Book. It thoroughly explains the correct process to detail a car from start to finish. I would purchase that first and do some reading on the forum as it is full of information about proper washing techniques and lots more.

Congratulations on your new ride and the best of luck to you! Im the MAN

Not taking your new ride to your local car wash is a great idea. Learning how to care for your card both interior and exterior is the best way to keep it looking great as well as maintaining its value.

One of the most useful tools you can have in your arsenal is a dual action polisher. This tool will improve the uniformity and consistency of your work. It makes short work of swirls, oxidation, and other finish defects. A dual action polisher is also a great way to apply both sealants and wax.

Bobby this should be a sticky in the Intro forum.

Welcome! I am also from North Jersey haha. I have a porter cable 7424xp and love every time I use it! Highly recommended!

Welcome! I'm from north jerseyalso. I would suggest going through all the post on the forum and checking out what everyone does. The people here are extremely knowledgeable and dont mind answering questions. And yes, the porter cable starter kit is awesome. Just make sure you get it with the 5.5 pads, the 6.5 dont work so well.

that kit only comes with the 6.5s i guess ill have to just make a kit then?

ive been reading for hours and i still feel soo overwhelmed!

Before you buy and use a polisher...which is a huge jump for you...first learn to properly wash and dry your car. Read the links in how to forums for that info. Best part its really cheap compared to all the other stuff.

You need 2 5 gallon buckets from Lowes or home depot. You need a grit guard. You need a micro fiber mitt or something called the bone sponge. And duragloss 901 or meguiars gold class wash. And microfiber towels. Do you have a Sam's club nearby and know someone with a membership? They sell 24 packs for 11.50 that are more than adequate to start with.

what else do i need

That looks like a good start. I would throw in some drying towels like the green Cobra Guzzlers. A quality sealant such as Blackfire Wet Diamond. The Blackfire Instant Detailer is on BOGO so you could pick that up. The 6 pack of rolled edge towels would be a must in my opinion.

I got a Gilmour foamaster 75qgfmr from Amazon for 42.99..little cheaper and looks identical to the AG model. As for mitt whatever floats your boat. I just switched from a rasta style mf mitt to The Bone mf sponge and love it.
