Hello everyone. I just bought a new VW GTI and have always wanted to get into detailing. I've been doing some research over the past few days and want to buy a kit, but want to make sure I get everything I need, but certainly don't want to go overboard since I'm not even a beginner yet. All I know to do is wash the car, clay bar it, then some sort of polish and then wax. I don't even know if this is correct, and I'm sure there's way more to it.

I would love some good beginner type of advice to help me get started. I was looking at purchasing either a Porter Cable polishing combo kit, or a griots. Like I said, I don't want to go crazy, and was looking to spend about $200ish give or take a few bucks and was hoping to get a kit with the right pads and also some polish and waxes.

What type of advice do you have. I've been looking around the forum but figured why not introduce myself first. Like I said, my car is a new GTI if that makes a difference

First off Welcome to AutoGeek! Be very careful or you will be very addicted. I'm pretty much a newbie too so I won't get into technical stuff, I'll leave that to the pros. My advice is to read, read and then read some more. Read the threads from the pros and research the products. What you buy today, tomorrow you will see something you wish you bought instead. There is tons of great info here and tons of great people to help you.
Here's a great thread about a GTI to get you started:

Where in Ohio are you from? If your close to Cleveland, I'd be happy to demo some products for you

I used to live up in Medina, but now I'm just a few minutes north of Polaris. By the way, the first article was very cool

Welcome to Autogeek Online! :welcome:

We have countless success stories on this forum and I can't track them all but once in a while I create a link to a few that I think will help others, here's some recent examples, these can also be found towards the bottom of my article list.

The first one has a very in-depth compilation of how-to articles all posted in a linear fashion so you can read through them and then go out into your garage and get busy turning your car into a glistening gemstone.
