Hello everyone my name is Keith. I am new to autogeek. I own a 2007 Obsidian Black Pearl WRX. Black is a difficult color to maintain as we all know. I hope to learn some new tips and techniques as far as what products yield good and bad results on back vehicle.

Hi Keith,

Welcome to Autogeek Online! :welcome:

It all comes down to three tings,

  1. Evaluate the surface so you know the condition of the paint
  2. Choose the right products for the job
  3. Use good technique

I follow those three things steps for every car I buff out...

This was a fun one, a 1956 Ford F150 that won the award for America's Most Beautiful Ford F150

This is actually a single stage urethane finish. The owner didn't want the plasticy look a clear coat imparts on black paint.

Condition? It was a complete swirled-out, (rotary buffer swirls), scratched up hazy mess.

There's about 14 hours of mostly rotary buffing into that truck from start to give the keys back to the owner.
