Anyone else from ND!?

Havent had a vehicle worth worrying about since a 1 gen Eclipse Turbo in high school. Finally found the car I've been looking for for quite a while now and now need to take this daily driver to a show worthy car.

86 Fiero GT Getrag :D

any other Fiero guys here?

Off to look around!

p.s.... To any mods/admins that might read this... My username from EVERY other forum I frequent was taken on here by what looks to be an inactive user with "0" posts. Any chance you could mod their name and give me their user name!? Got one of the other forums to do it to with a non contributing member.

My name on all my other forums as well as the plates on my car is "Bump"

There is an inactive member here with that user name... One of the other forums emailed the guy telling him his name had changed to "bump1" rather than deleting his account and then changed my user name to "Bump."

BTW, Names Wes. and thanks. Hitched a ride and drive the car 1216 miles from WA to ND. Everything lined up that it had all the packages I wanted, color, condition, price, etc....
will get some pics up here soon hopefully.

So I was looking around and MAN is there alot of info on here! I could search for days! And may have to....

I have seen a few of the detail projects like the Lexus and the 82 Datsun. EXACTLY what I'm looking to do. If there is one... can someone point me to a detailing start to finish thread on where to start with an 24 year old car that was a daily driver for the past 8 years? Yes it was a daily driver for the past 8 years, but was also meticulously maintained while it was in use so its not as bad off as it sounds. I would also love to start a start to finish thread eventually, but need to build my aresenal first. I will get some better pics of the areas needing attention today, but heres the condition of the car after I just got home from the 16.5 hour 1216 mile drive home.

Not bad for a 24 year old car that is 100% factory origional with 115k on the clock, eh?
Keep in mind the car had not been cleaned yet in these pics and did not seem to have a lick of wax on it. I have since washed it and put a minimal coat of Mequiars Gold Class on it to protect what is there until I got a chance to iron out my detailing plan.

GREAT! Thanks so much Mike! both for the info and the name!

Back to reading and learning!

Welcome! I had a black 87 GT 5-speed, then a red 87 GT auto. Still one of my favorite cars but my wife hates them! Every trip I take I always see a Fiero and either call and tell her or send a picture. At Detail Fest last weekend, as Mike mentioned there was a black 86 GT 4-speed and it was sharp! Not sure if you're a member on Fiero.nl but you should check it out. I assume you are aware of the Fiero store too?

Welcome.
This site is an info overload at first.

Yep, I am a member at Pennock's. I had been looking for "just the right one" for about 6 years now. Biggest problem was location, but I finally gave in to that.

One of only 2 GT owners around here.

And yes, an extreme overload at first. What I was really looking for was a thread that said: Here is where to start and all the steps (each one linking to the detailed process) very similar to what Mike did above. Maybe not a bad sticky to make Mike. List the steps start to finish on a full 20+ year old car detail with links to all the complete threads behind each step. Im sure Im not the only guy who has come here for this reason and has been overwhelmed with the wealth of knowledge!

I havent gotten into the videos yet (cant view them at work) so forgive me if its explained in there. Before I clay, what do I need to do to remove the 1 layer of Gold Class Wax I put on last weekend?

Checked out the Buffing video at home over lunch. very detailed, presice, and thorough!

For some reason I cant get the claying video to work though. Wont get past the first 30 seconds or so. Issue on my end? Anyone else get it to work?

86 Fiero GT Getrag :D

any other Fiero guys here?

Had two Fiero SE, both black, '85 and '86. Got rid of the last one about six years ago. That black was a bear to keep up!

Regards,
GEWB

Sweet Fiero! I've always wanted one; not so much for the car itself but more so for the chassis. Skip the restoration work and go straight into kitting it out into a lambo.:coolgleam:

So I was half way through typing this and the power went out. We got 8" of new snow and its still coming down. Yes, its april 2nd! The wettest heaviest snow I've ever seen! taking out power line across the area! Guess I'll be hiding in the shop and detailing this weekend!

Anyway... If I lived in an area where Fieros were more common, I would do something to be different. But around here, I am only one of 2 GT owners and this thing attracts enough attention as it is. It is all origional and 24 years old so I am in a debate right now of leaving it all stock to save/raise value or modify it to my likings.

These are not considered "classics" or "Collectables" yet, but someday? Maybe? Who knows. The car is 100% factory origional with clean title and ALL origional paperwork back to the origional window sticker and bill of sale from 86!

What do you guys think? keep it stock in hopes it becomes more desiarable or make it something I want it to be?
