Hi! I'm Joe and I recently purchased a PC 7424 and I hoping to find tips here on using it correctly. I've always been a hand application kinda guy, but Father time is catching up to me.

I have four vehicles, and my first attempt at detailing with a PC will be on a 98 Black Honda CR-V I plan on using Mother's 3 step system.:dunno:

There's seems to be lots of good information here and I'm glad I joined ya'all :dblthumb2:

:welcome: To Autogeek Online Joe!

This link contains articles written by Mike Phillips and has allot of great reading within.

Basic steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax
Make detailing enjoyable and practice. Take your time and do not become overwhelmed. Just because there are a thousand product doesn't mean you have to use them all.

Pick one product from each category from the steps above.

Exterior Car Care: Follow the 3 steps of proper vehicle maintenance - Clean, Polish & Protect! car wax, polish, paint sealant, souveran, deep gloss,

Interior Car Care: products to clean & protect all plastic, vinyl, leather, rubber & fabrics... vinyl protectant, leather cleaner, conditioner,

Welcome Joe. Nice to have another Virginian on board. The '98 Honda should be a fun correction, they typically have a soft clearcoat that corrects easily and on a black you'll surely see a nice improvement.

Iam not far from you at all. I am off Lucks Lane by 288. If you ever need anything give me a shout. I am just a weekend warrior taking care of my Daily Drivers. Hope to see ya around.

BTW... Joe what pads do you have? Also if I can be any help at all let me know. I have a ton of products if you want to try some diffrent things. What pads did you buy?

If you ever want to get together let me know, or if you want some help on your first go around.

William

Yeah Heck we're neighbors!:xyxthumbs:

I bought 4 pads and a backing plate from Adams. Their 7" in diameter. I have an orange, black, aqua, and a white one. I'm not sure which pad to use with what?? Of course I have the white pad that came with the 7424.

I purchased Mothers 3 step system. Pre-wax cleaner, sealer glaze, and Carnuba wax. So far I'm thinking the white pad to apply the Pre cleaner.

I also have a stock pile of products, that I've tried/used in the past. Thanks for the offer of help.:props: I may be taking you up on that next weekend.

The Honda is my 17 y/o sons ride, and he's always on the go. I plan on swiping it from him next weekend.

Yeah I think the 7" pads are going to be ok for the mothers products but as far as correction of the paint to remove any swirls I would say smaller pad and diffrent products.

The backing plate I have is 5 1/2" What size pad would you recommend?

The finish on this Honda has been neglected :help:

EDIT: Would these be better?

Dual Action Deluxe Foam Pad Kit

I really appreciate the advise William

Joe,

I have the 5.5" Hydro Tech Pads, as well as the CCS pads and I have to say that I prefer the Hydro Tech pads. Your backing plate should work with the HydroTech pads.

I would also suggest looking at the Meguiars MicroFiber pad system.. I have having great results with that system on hard clear coats as well as using the cutting pads with AIO products like Poli-Seal.

If you decide to go with the foam pads then I reccomend staying away from M105 for the time being, and go with the ultimate compound and then some M205 all of which are available locally or here on AG.

Previous you said that you have other products laying arround.. what you got that might be able to remove the swirls?

I have some turtle wax polishing compound.

Where are these pads available locally?

You might be able to find something similar at a local body shop supplier or a local detail supply house. If not AG is the place to get them. If you do buy them stick with the thinner pads as well.
