I am new to the forum and I joined to gather information to fix some paint issues.

My 2007 Nissan Altima paint needs serious help after the following:

* Cleveland, OH winters
* automatic car washes (I have since stopped using them)
* severe water stains and/or chemical fallout
* lots of scratches from children, etc.

I am hoping to get it back to looking good again over the summer and the supplies are as follows:

* Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit - G1016
* Porter-Cable 7424 XP dual action buffer
* selection of Lake Country 5.5-inch CCS pads [YEL, ORG, GRN, BLU]
* Meguiars Mirror Glaze #105 Ultra-Cut Compound
* Meguiars Mirror Glaze #205 Ultra Finishing Polish
* Meguiars #21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0
* Misc. wet sanding for some of the really rough spots - but I will probably do this last just to see how the rest of it turns out

Believe it or not, the condition of your car is very common living up north and being from New England I see these all the time.

How much detailing experience do you have? Are you currently doing everythng by hand or have you used a polisher either rotary or dual action?

Do you already have the supplies or are those you intend to order?

I already own everything except the BLUE foam buffing pads mentioned and the Meguiar's #21 sealant - I ordered those last night from AutoGeek.

I will be using the Porter-Cable 7424XP dual action for the work. I have limited detailing experience but I am a DIY type. I have owned the Porter-Cable 7424XP for a couple of years but have only used it a couple of times.

I'd look at Iron X spray for paint decontamination. I was very impressed at how well it worked. I only had to clay one area of the vehicle after Iron X because it worked so well.

Check out the polishing videos by Mike Phillips. He provides great advice and instruction on how to get the best results.
