Hi all,
I have a new Avalanche that is black on black and I want to get the paint started off right. Any suggestions on prep and wax/sealant would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance,
Welcome to AGO!
Your going to be in for a nice treat with black. With balck you want to make sure you doing everything right from washing to sealing.
Here is what I would do:
Wash: You want to get good wash mitt like a microfiber Mit or lambs wool something along those lines
Cobra Micro-Chenille Wash Mitts, car shampoo mitts, microfiber mitts
Along with that is some soap now you can get a multitude of soaps here or locally. You will need a good drying towel like a MF waffle weave towel like the Guzzler. You will want to was you vehicle using the 2 bucket method and grit guards are a must with a black vehicle.
Car Wash Products, Car wash soap, car wash shampoo, car wash brush
After you was and dry your vehicle you will want to do the baggie test. This test to check for any above surface contamination.

Even though its new you still may have this contamination. Once you have done the baggie test and have determined whether you need to clay the vehicle or not you can move on.
Claying (if needed):
You can get the clay and pub here of pick up a Meguiars or Mothers kit locally. This will remove the surface contamination and leave you with a smooth finish.

After all of that you will need to determine if you have an light swirls or scratches. If you do a mild finishing polish maybe in order. If you have none the a fine finishing polish will be in order.
You can hand apply these if you want unless you want to up your game a purchase a DA polisher kit thats on you.
Once your paint has been polished you can either choose to seal it with a paint sealant or coat it with a permanent coating.
