Same Great Power, Now With More Control
I constantly evaluate our products so we can offer the best tools to help you have fun in your garage. Our 1st generation random orbital brought safe and effective dual action machine polishing to a wide audience. Our 2nd generation orbital set the industry standard for performance with its powerful, 7-amp, 850-watt motor. Striving for perfection, we set out to improve upon this benchmark machine, taking into account thoughtful feedback from our great customers. After rigorous testing, I am proud to introduce the 3rd generation Griot's Garage random orbital. Our new orbital offers the same great power as the previous version, but we redesigned the exterior to achieve a new level of comfort and ease of use. We kept the adjustable handle but added a rubberized grip to it. We added molded hand and finger grips to the housing, along with a domed, rubberized palm grip. We moved the speed control dial and power switch to more convenient locations. Polishing and waxing your paint with a random orbital has never been more easy, safe, and fun. With 6 speed settings, a 5/16" diameter offset, and low-end torque, this machine is ideal for polishing and waxing at any speed. Swirl marks? No problem. Water spots? Piece of cake. Oxidation? Bring it on! I designed the Griot's Garage random orbital to provide you with a safe and easy way to achieve flawless results with minimal work. Not sure whether this is the right tool for you? Learn more about machine polishing in the videos below or give us a call. Powerful enough for a professional. Safe enough for a first-timer. Backed by a lifetime guarantee against defects. Choose from a 10' (18 AWG) or Extra-Long 25' (16 AWG) power cord option that makes working around the entire vehicle a breeze! Includes a 6" hook-and-loop backing plate.

Thats why the 2nd Gens are on sale everywhere!! Just saw this in my new GG catalog this afternoon when the mail came.

Reading the notes it shows it has the same power? Without a review of it it doesn't seem worth "upgrading to this unit. Sure its nice they moved buttons around and made the handle more comfortable but I have been using mine fine for the past year with no issues.

Hopefully the fixed alot of the problems i been reading about as well as given it a new look. I read in a post somewhere that on speed 6 the older versions are all over the board. With one hitting about 13000opm's which is twice as fast as it should be. Anyone else hear this?

i'm curious if they made any changes to the motor (or calibrated it higher) since some reported that the 1st batch of the second generation with the older sticker (polishing 5-6) on the side were more powerful than the ones that they currently sell now (polishing 4-5)...

Judging by the pics on their site, especially the blown-up view, it seems that they decided it was time they stopped "rebranding" a generic DA and decided to go for custom manufacturing and design. The motor and internals remain unchanged apparently, with the only redesign being the exterior.

It's the same thing they did with the 3"... They stopped using the generic design and had the factory design it to their spefications.

BigAl3, they also removed the word "professional" when they changed the sticker because apparently they didn't like that "pro" detailers were going through these quicker than most and with the lifetime defect warranty, they decided to change it.

I'm guessing this will be lighter, more solidly built, easier to handle, and I know a lot of people complained they couldn't see the speed dial while working, so they moved it to the top of the base. Though I personally was a fan of the on/off button on the side, so I don't like they moved it back to the top middle.

+1

The side on/off button was a great plus to me....
I hope they have at least made a better speed dial button, more precise than the last one.
I'm curious to know if there's any change in weight, but I guess if it's.... this must be pretty minimal...

i was aware of that too, sorry forgot to mention that. sometimes "new & improved" isn't always a good thing and should be better left alone, we'll have to see. hopefully, the rubberized grip on the top of the polisher is solid and doesn't peel or come off...
