hum, I've not had any failures with the hydro-tech's and I have the new griot's too. Maybe you are using them a lot harder than me? Could be a bad batch? I know of people using them on a flex to....hope this doesn't turn out to be a problem I really like these HT pads! They work so much better than the ccs + I bought a bunch of them.
 
Okay, so both John and I are having issues with the new Cyan and Tangerine Hydro-tech pads either with the backing failing or coming apart on just a few cars and we're not doing anything that would warrant their quick demise...I have 4 cyan pads sitting in my garage that are falling apart and my Tangerine pads are doing the same.

I'm going back to the CCS pads and now have 8 new hydro-tech pads that are all going bad or are already destroyed...I'd say this isn't a fluke when I have a griot's and John uses a Flex DA. It's a shame too. I really liked their correcting power. :(
 
Yeah, it's a bit of a mystery so far. I just received 6 new CCS pads (2 yellow, 2 white, 2 red) so I'm going to compare the life span on those. We'll see. Shouldn't be a problem with the white or red pads since they aren't taking the beating of an initial cut/clean with Meg's #105, but the yellow's will be a good comparison.

I'll see if we can get a pic of the Hydro pads failure points too. They seem to be failing around the edge of the Velcro backing. Almost like they are torquing away from the pad. And then there are a few pads where the Velcro has pulled off of the pad all together. Bad adhesion maybe?

Some points to consider: We are using Meg's #105 almost all of the time with this pad. We are running at speed 5/6 almost all of the time.

That should not matter at all. I have CCS and flat pads that I've used a lot. With all types of compounds and polishes at those speeds w/o issues.
 
I am looking into buying more pads soon and am thinking about trying out the hydro tech's I am currently using CCS pads and have a reath large stock of them but liked the idea of these guys being a little stiffer.

What do the people not having failure think of the new pads?

Hey Da Fats, it'd probably be better if you started your own thread for reviews and just use our thread as a place to read about the issues we're having with these particular pads instead.

I'm using them with a Griot's and so far no problems. I use them with the Wolfgang TSR Combo and clean them with the XMT pad cleaner spray. I wonder if there is some kind of chemical in the MEG polishes that are affecting these pads? I almost always run my Cyan pads on 5.5 or 6. Granted that I do not use them at the same level as the other guys but I have used them quite a bit and they still look pretty much new. I hope this gets figured out soon, I really like the HT pads and look them over closely after every use keeping my fingers crossed that failure does not appear, so far none. There is something going on for sure, Lake Country needs to do some testing I think. Knowing AG they are all over this.

I used compound only with my Griot's DA and cleaned with nothing but water. :( Not sure why the back of it came off.

Both of mine came apart like that also, the Orange and Blue one.........
 
Okay so I just got back from seeing the new prototype pads that were sent to Adam (O.C. Detailing) and John (VR8). They are/were working on a torn up black 2000 BMW 323i. From what I could tell the cyan is a wayyyyy better pad than yellow CCS, BUT the one Adam was using with his Griots formed a dimple in the middle of the pad after only half a hood, a full fender, and a door (pictures should be up soon). Also the cyan Adam was using went from being an extremely firm pad to almost a white or gray in the same length of working. I'm not sure what John was experiencing with it but I'm sure he will chime in. Hope this helps out on the design. I know that once all the kinks are worked out, I'll have to pick up a couple of these because they do beautiful work (of course that could be the operators :D).
 
I just walked through the door. I will be putting together a new thread dedicated specifically to the testing and results of the redesigned LC Hydro-tech pads. It will be better to have a dedicated thread for this instead of starting our findings on page 4 of this one. I'll post a link as soon as I finish the thread.

And thanks for the kind words Jonathan. ;) Nice to have another AG member there to act as a third party as I really want to show that we use good practices when detailing and that we are doing nothing out of the ordinary or extreme to cause the issues we're seeing. Glad you stayed through the 50 degree temps in the garage. Lol

50???? Haah try more like upper 40s. And that's nothing, I'm used to the cold.
 
I litterally just got in from buffing a car with my new hydros. I absolutely love them they will soon replace my others for the most part. I have to say though I did not notice any backing velcro issues or any ripping of the foam. Again this is the first use of them but as of now they are holding up just fine and correcting like a champ!

Are you using a rotary or a DA polisher? The problems are with the DA polishers and not with rotary polishers.
