Comments and constructive criticism welcome! Here is my final logo idea:

After thinking long and hard about what I would like to name my part-time business venture I finally pulled the trigger and am set on a name, New Edge Auto Detailing. It can also be shortened to New Edge Detail and still sound great, I just want to convey that my main focus is on automotive services. The name has a dual meaning to me as the New Edge body style (99-04) is my favorite of the mustangs in this generation. The other is that I will provide services that will ultimately give the customers vehicle that New Edge they are looking for. It is short and sweet and is a clean professional business name IMO.

As for the logo, that is another story. Many hours of tweaking on photoshop which led me to this. It is above and beyond my original vision except I would like add two stripes going on a diagonally through the text almost coming at you. That will be difficult as I am not pro, but I will have to figure it out. The 'AUTO DETAILING' is just an outline as the background color will be dictated on where the logo is placed (I am thinking ahead for shirt designs, website, etc)

Anyways, let me know what you guys think. So far I am happy with the start! Feed back please
 
looks good, but i cant really make out whats inside the lettering.

The W looks kinda out of place cause it doesnt flow with the the other lettering

but what do i know lol

That was tough trying to make out what was in the lettering visible. It is a 2013 gt500. You can see the grill and both wheels.

The W is the same font so I find that strange. I think the W adds character.

I like it. I would fix the "W" to keep in line with the rest (reflects a tidy and clean business), and possibly have a sharper edge to letters to go along with the name. Good start! :xyxthumbs:
 
I love that your making progress! I agree...get rid of whatever is inside the lettering. You may want to have a logo that's easily printed on shirts. More crazy the logo, more money for shirts.
 
It looks good--I really like the font and stylization, but consider letting the logo stand on its own without any additional embellishment (the graphic inside).


Things to consider when you're doing this:


Does the shape of the logo look good by itself in one color?

Does the additional graphic inside ADD to the look or not?

Does the graphic convey something important to the viewer?

Are the additional details sufficiently guiding the eye to the important aspects of the design?


In a way, you could almost remove the graphic and replace it with a top down black-to-red gradient and get a lot of the same visual appeal.

Also:
Double check your letter spacing (kerning). Looks like some letters in "Edge" are running into each other and the N in "New" is spaced away too far. The "auto detailing" is also spaced a little inconsistently. For one, the space between the words is close to the same size as the space between each letter so it almost looks like one word.

I like it but it IS a mix of lower and upper case lettering which is why the "W" stands out. I couldn't make out the shading and felt like maybe just some 3D shading would be better. My initial thoughts were the shading was inconsistant in the word "edge".

Thanks for your input, lucky I have someone that will be making shirts so cost isn't much of a worry there.

Thank you for the in depth response. You sir, seem to have some experience in graphic design. As for the background image in text that was almost the best I can do. I wanted to get a side view of a red mustang or any sports car in general to pop inside the text. I don't think it looks bad and actually adds character to the text. Some may distinguish the from grill and try to figure out what is in the text. Which is ultimately good, and beats plain text IMO. I know a lot of mustang guys and work on their cars so I thought that would appeal to that crowd as well as my interests.

As for the spacing I only really altered that of the AUTO DETAILING so it would span the length of EDGE and it does appear that a few may be spaced differently, may be the letters too. Thanks for pointing that out, I will be sure to look into that.

I am look to add something else, some subtle to give it the extra push over the top. I originally was envisioning so kind of two stripe pattern going thru the text on an angle but am not really sure how to accomplish that.

If you or know anyone else that is experience with graphic design/Photoshop and would like to help please let me know!

Thanks for your input as always rmagnus, it will be considered. Glad I posted before being set on it!
 
Made a few changes with letter spacing and added to the logo. The inside of the NEW EDGE will stay as is and will most change according to its background.

Background will vary upon shirt color, cards, etc.
 
I think it looks good. Its original and different, and its nice to look at.

Thank you, agree with the black background not popping as much as that of the white background. First order will be white shirts!
 
I like the black background, but why would you make the letters in "Auto detailing" only a white outline, when in your white background design, the letters seem to be intended to be white? The letters in the black background need to be solid white. There isn't enough contrast between the NEW EDGE and the black background. Frankly, I think there could be more contrast between the NEW EDGE and the white background. I think the car pic in it, the colors it is, anyway, muddies it. I don't like the white highlights on the letters with the white background because it reduces contrast. There should be a bolder black meridian between the lettering and the white background, or at least a red one. White too close to the edge makes it blend into the background too much.
 
I agree I think the 'AUTO DETAILING' should be altered. Still coming up with ideas in how to do that.
 
Play around in photoshop with the blending layers (bevel,emboss, stroke, shadows etc).

I didn't know how to do anything when I started working on mine and all I did was find tutorials on youtube of things I liked. You'd be surprised how easy you pick things up.

This is what I came up with after playing around.

They seem dark in these files but that's because they are jpg's and not psd files.
 
Yes, I understand the basics of CS4/5 as that is what I used on the text. Thanks
