Since its Meguiar's the question is this, will this machine be made for Pros or consumer and pros? I have a feeling it's more towards the consumer based then the Pros. Only time will tell.

In your opinion, what differentiates a "Pro" from a "Consumer" polisher?


Lots of Professional Detailers still use a Porter Cable for finishing.

Gary Dean uses the Harbor Freight DA.

Mike Stoops uses the $27 HF pneumatic 3"

The Experts at Chemical Guys use the Chinese Rupes knock-off in their training classes

What I meant to say was that hopefully this machine is more powerful than their current version. We pros like more power. I too have a XP and use the Griots and Meg's D.A with the arupes and Flex. So trust me I know what you mean. Nothing against but more power is better. Let's see the reviews coming in.

The torque control seems pretty impressive, but it still stopped rotating pretty much every time he approached the curve of the wheel arch.

Agreed. It appeared to do ok with direct downward pressure, but as soon as it hit an angle that new marked backing plate made it obvious that it stopped spinning.

I'm thinking with a thicker (more traditional) pad, or one that's smaller in diameter, it might do better on those angles.

Smaller diameter pad on same speed setting is.more.likely to maintain rotation on contours

Thicker pads are MORE likely to stop spinning on contours
 
So many questions...so few answers. Feels like we just get little pieces here and there. I will agree though, the pad stopping on the angles was a little discouraging considering the hype, but again, who knows what speed it was set to.

I hope to hear some first hand reviews from people who have also used the Flex 3401 and if the Flex is still better enough to warrant the higher price tag. These are definitely the two polishers at the head of the pack for my next polisher purchase.

seriously, what are you waiting for. pick up the flex already, you will not be disappointed and you will wonder why you even doubt yourself to pick one up sooner. forced rotation, well built, along with the different backing plates and pads that you can use, there isn't really anything else more to be said...

The video above says it all. These DAs, whether new or existing all stop spinning on curved panels. I think it is a design issue for safety. I have had the porter, rupes 15, rupes duetto and rupes mini and except for the mini I have had no luck on curved panels. I have read many many reviews and have done massive research and of course, if you can manipulate the head of the machine and tilt it in certain ways and perform various contortions you can get it to spin but at a certain point it is ridiculous. After waiting for the big flex announcement (which was a goose in my opinion), I am throwing in the towel and buying a flex next year and will also purchase Mike's new book. I have a feeling that my time will go down significantly for a daily driver detail and will look awesome.

Just my two cents after being frustrated all summer with various DAs.

not necessarily, the GG6 has lots of torque and is hard to stop unless you put tons of pressure on it...

even the HF DA as well, check out at 12:10...

The real question is... when should we see the old Meguiars DA polishers on close out sale?

I was waiting to see what was introduced this week, and if anything was comparable. I've already got two DAs a mini, a GG6 and a Rupes 21, so it's not like I'm in a hurry or anything; more like a luxury. The Flex is still most likely in the lead, just waiting to hear and see more reviews (like the above video) on this new machine.
