New Meguiars Paint Protect

Anyone know why the directions say that it is nor recommended for windows? I've always put Collinite 845 and other sealants on my windows with great results. Love the beading and hardly ever use my wipers.

In my water test, this product appears to behave more like a sheeting based product when flooded with water. I tried it on my windshield and paint, and although it will bead to some extent, the lack of a very high surface tension for me gives less of a reason to use it on glass compared to other much tighter beading sealants formulated specifically for windshield use. Also, the properties that make this stuff so easy to spread, can also make it more difficult to wipe down perfectly clean. And although I really spent some time wiping it off the glass and didn't notice distortion driving at night, I think as a precaution Meguiar's doesn't want people to put this on their front windshield who might not buff it off as clean which may distort the glass clarity to some extent. That's my guess. On paint, there have been times I've applied it and I wasn't able to get a super clean wipedown after the 3-5 minute dwell time, but this residue has always taken care of itself the next day and I was not able to notice it in the sun.

Thanks for the comments.
I am testing it on a few panels now. Seems slick and very easy to apply. The earlier poster who commented that it did not last long beyond an initial wash has me concerned though. How long have you now had it on paint and what type of results do you have so far?

I had some time before I went to work to use 365. I polished out the hood on my daily driver with M205, followed by DP Prep Polish to remove the oils from M205 and then applied 365. DP Prep Polish is optional. I am just curious to see how it bonds to paint with no polishing oils on it.

Unfortunately my daily sits outside so it will not get the 24 hour cure in an enclosed area. The good thing is that it is 71 degrees here today so hopefully the sun's heat will cure it a little quicker. The low for tonight is 52 degrees. Looks like there is a 10% chance of rain this friday and saturday but that usually means it won't rain. That's the benefit of living in Southern California.

PaintProtect is pretty much completely gone after a month on my car. The first time I washed it after I applied it it was barely beading, but when it rains it look like it beads a little better. The slickness is completely gone after the first wash, which is a shame cause it was super slick after the initial application. The car was prepped before application with iron x followed by a speedy prep sponge wipe down. The stuff goes on so easy I'll prob just put another coat on it after I wash it next time, I won't be buying anymore of it tho.

Makes sense that it lost some of it's slickness. I used it and it is a little oily. So after washing and removing the carrier oils the slickness diminishing sounds about right.

Thanks for the comments.

Let us know how it performs for you.

Quick update. So it had been 4 days since I applied paint protect on the hood of the car. I was hoping for the 7 day recommended time frame to not get it wet or washed, but rain showed up. The car sits outside 24/7 but the weather during the day was in the low to mid 70's and at night about mid 50's. We got rain on Saturday night. I took these after the small shower passed.

Here are the initial beading shots. I'll let you guys be the judge. Keep in mind the car had not been washed in this time.

This is on the lower part of the hood above the bumper.

I called Meguiar's to speak with them about they're new Paint Protect.

They told me it's easy on and off.
The product is recommended to those who don't really care for a great shine but more as a "Paint Protector".
I was told it doesn't delivery a great shine but gives you long lasting protecting.
When I asked them if I should have it in my shop they said yes but to only offer it to those who love beating and not too worried about the gloss.

From what I was told it's an inexpensive way to offer my customers a low cost paint protecting, last longer than a wax and for the same money as they're GoldClass Carnauba Wax.
I may buy some to see what results I'd get.

May be perfect for those wash and wax jobs.

Thanks for that clarification. I prefer a good balance of gloss and protection and would have been disappointed if I would have tried this out.

Gave the hood a D114 wipe down and the surface still feels slick. More rain expected tonight and the early part of monday.

Guz, the beading I'm getting is exactly like your pictures show. I went ahead and did my windows today (even though the label says it is not recommended) just to test it out. As Loach said it is oily and it's tough to do the wipe down. I'm guessing it's the carrier oils that will dissolve. I can see them from outside the vehicle, but when I get inside I don't see the streaks. I'll know more in the morning I guess.

I took the hose and a nozzle to it. Put the nozzle on mist setting. This is what the beading looks like on various spots on the hood.

I took a short video with the spray nozzle on the shower setting. You guys can check out the sheeting behavior.
