hey guys, my name is jay and i just joined here the other day. been browsing here for awhile now and have been detailing by hang using otc products for about 10 years now. anyways, i got some money saved up and am looking to order some better products. here is my list and im open to advice especially on pads pretty new on the whole pad thing. anyways here goes my list.

1. Porter cable 7424xp. ideas for backing plates? i was thinking before going with 6.5 inch pads but then i saw how big they were and am deciding that 5inch (5.5in?) pads would be best for this.

2. Meguiars m105 with a lake country orange pad?

3. Meguias m205 with a lake country white pad?

4. Collinite #845 insulator wax with a lake country black pad?
--pads for applying and removing ideas.

5. I was thinking for a backing plate to go with the lake country hook & loop.

my main concerns here are what type of pads would i really be needing. i did see some ccs pads and the gold stood out to me for using with collinite.

the cars i am working with would mainly be hondas, i do have a bmw as well that i will be detailing.

thank you guys and i know this is a long post but your ideas will help me get started and moving forward with i love to do!

What you listed sounds great. Personally, I would stick to 5.5"or smalller for the PC.
I have found micro fiber pads cut faster with the PC, but the foam will finish nicer.
Don't forget some clay and a rinsless wash product for lube.

awesome thank you! such a quick reply as well. i forgot to add one more thing, any ideas for headlight restoration kits?... if not i was thinking of just sanding down by hand and polishing it. anyways, you think the black pad will be fine for applying the wax? what to use for buffing out the wax?

Personally, I apply and remove all wax by hand. For those that use machine, I beleive most still remove by MF towel. Yes, a black pad will work for applying.
For headlights, I have always wet sanded with 1500 or 2000, then compounded and polished. I never saw the need for a kit. I just buy some sand paper and compound.

One thing I can add, from my experience, it is useless to try to remove any wax or sealant with any machine that I have tried.

They are all good for applying products but they don't remove very well. Don't waste your money trying to remove wax or sealant any way but with a plush microfiber towel by hand. Rotaries leave swirl marks and DA polishers load up when trying to remove wax. It would take a box full of DA bonnets to get anywhere. It's not worth the trouble.
