Just picked up a brand spankin' new 2017 Toyota Tundra crew max. One of my buddies suggested I join the forum and get smart on the process because the truck is black. lol. So, here I am. Looking forward to picking up some tips and tricks to keep her looking like new as long as I can. :xyxthumbs:

Welcome to the forum. A lot of great info on here. Black vehicles are beautiful when they are clean. Keeping them that was is definitely a job!!

First things first, welcome to the forum, and to that lucky group known as Tundra owners. As you can see by my avatar, I'm in the group too. You're gonna love the 5.7L, just keep your foot out of the gas, if you can. As has been said on this forum...black is not a color, it's a lifestyle. Very few colors, however, look better than black when done right. If the newer Toyotas are anything like mine (2013), the clear coat is butter soft. Look at it the wrong way, and it scratches. Fortunately, it corrects easy. Careful wash technique will help you avoid scratches and swirls, but they happen. I'm far from an expert, and I'm sure that some of them will chime in and help you with product selection and advice.

Welcome! Tacoma owner here. Not black, though! First order of business- get some high quality microfiber drying towels! And read up on proper two-bucket wash technique and rinseless washes/solutions. Enjoy that beautiful truck.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Got the truck on Jan 2 of this year. Took deliver with 43 miles on it (dx from another dealer and brought down in the rain). I gave my dealer specific instructions not to clean it since I know how sensitive black paint is and I didn't want them introducing any scratches/swirls or trying to correct any they found. Still there are a few little blemishes here and there and one drip of what looks like bird crap that I would have liked to have caught before I drove it off the lot. Oh well... Damned if you do, damned if you don't... Anyway, I think they'll clean up easily once I figure out what are the right products to use on it.

My first choice was actually "radiant red". Unfortunately Toyota stopped offering that color with the 2016 model year and I couldn't find a leftover. :-(

Already got the buckets. :-)

FWIW.....I use the chenille mitts they sell here, and Griots Brilliant Finish car soap, with a foam gun. Drying is done with a leaf blower (electric) and a Griots PFM drying towel. I had the truck for a couple of years before I discovered Autogeek, and along the way, installed some pretty good swirls of my own. Do yourself a favor, and invest in some Weathertech floor liners for it. They're expensive, but worth it

nice truck, you should think about going up a size on the tires, my friend did that with his and it made it look real nice. puts it up a couple inches higher and fills out the wheel wells

Welcome to Autogeek. Congratulations on the new truck.

Welcome from a fellow crew cab owner! I joined (and spent) after wanting to make my ford look better. Lots of great, sometimes overwhelming advice here but the people are great. It's easily the best/friendliest enthusiast forum I've seen.

Start looking at polishers, and All in one products. By spring you'll have a good idea what route you want to go, and with that much body, your arms, and free time will thank you!

In case nobody mentioned it...black vehicles are a full time job. Say goodbye to your family, quit your job, take nodoze. I got rid of a Black Silverado Crew Cab back in May and haven't missed it a bit. I have a white Explorer now and love it. Black does look good when it's all shiny.

Nice crewmax! I had a black Tundra too, very soft paint. Even with the proper tools and care methods I was always chasing swirls. I would recommend a coating for this particular paint ASAP.
