Hello there I am new to the forum but not completely new to detailing. Although I am new to detailing in the US as I am from the UK.

I have been doing plenty of research on products and after finding this -

While searching I have decided to go for the blacklight for my car. Which is a Gray Golf GTI like the one above!

I have been recommended Finish Kare 1000p and was wondering if this would be suitable over the Black light or if someone could recommend another longer lasting wax.

My next question is about the exhaust tips. I bought the car a month ago and clearly the exhausts have never been cleaned or polished. Any recommendations on a cleaner to remove as much soot and residue before attacking with the steel wool then the polish. And then a good polish to bring them up again.

Also I am from Northern NJ and was wondering if anyone knew of any Do it yourself Car Wash's as I live in an apartment and don't have access to a water source.

Nice picture... that guy must be like an awesome detailer or something Im the MAN

This car was first glazed with Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze, CG Black Light was then applied, followed by a wipe down with CG V7 spray sealant.

From the same thread: GTI Advanced Protection Detail ....

I cleaned the exhaust tips with Chemical Guys Metal Polish + Protection. It is both an excellent metal polish and metal sealant in one product.

Exhaust tips after washing, but before polishing.

Can you tell which one is polished?

And after polishing.

I simply apply a small amount to a general purpose microfiber towel, and rub like crazy... repeat as necessary. Then wipe clean with a microfiber towel. These tips took about 10-15 minutes total to clean up... really quick and easy!

As far as car washing... look into some Optimum No Rinse (ONR), as you do not need a running water source to properly wash your car (provided it is not too dirty to begin with). You simply just need to be able to fill 2 buckets with water... you could use your sink or a bath tub to do so.

Thanks for the tips. Any recommendations for trying to strip some of the soot off before polishing them. Or just steel wool then polish the exhaust tips?

I have never needed to resort to steel wool... the results you see in all of my threads are simply from polishing with a microfiber towel. The theory "always use the least aggressive method" holds true for everything, including exhaust tips.

The polish will take care of any remaining soot/dirt/contaminates that cannot be removed from washing.

Thanks for the help and info. I have just placed my first order and am looking forward to getting to work and trying the new products on the car.

Going to try one of the cheaper metal polish options to begin with though(possibly mothers). If the results don't come I will go for the chemical guys.

I will update with results when I get the chance/time to do the car.
