New mid engine Corvette. July 18th.

Never much liked the latest version Camaro either I hate to admit.

Like others mention, the back end looks ugly, and I didn't much care for the very narrow and small mail slot side windows.. Looks like you're sitting in a Kayak-Canoe.

And yeah, as far as Camaros, I've had two in my life. First was a brand new 1976 LT in Silver, Black Interior.

And the second, one of the very best Camaros of all time that I bought in 1986, a 1968 SS396. Lemans Blue with Hockey Stick White Side Stripes, Houndstooth-Black Interior, Front-Rear Spoilers, Manual Transmission with Console-Gauges.

Bob, take some silly putty and put it over the new Camaro and stretch and pull a bit. I don't need to "see it in the metal" or in this cars case, aluminum, fiberglass and carbon fiber...just don't like it and I'm going to double down on the name, it's not a Stingray or Sting Ray as it were. Good luck GM, you'll need it, eeeeeek

Bob, enjoy the ride when you get yours, I truely mean it.

Thanks for this posting.
Now I can better understand your overall
dislike of the newer Corvettes and Camaros.

Here’s why:
One of the very best Camaro of all time
isn’t the 1968 you mention. Instead it’s
the 1970 through 1973 split bumper RSs.
And in any color, but Blue! :dblthumb2:

:)

Bob

Bob, the ONLY Camaro I like are the 70-73's, especially split bumpers!

RE: Sting Ray/Stingray

IMO:
The Sting Ray/Stingray emblem/designation/name
has had a varied and strange history.

Ex.:
What emblem/name/designation, other than
Corvette, did the 1968 Corvette go by?
________________________________________

•1963-1967...Sting Ray emblem/name/designation
first appeared

•1968............*no Sting Ray/Stingray emblem/designation/name

•1969-1976...Stingray emblem/name/designation
resurrected—as one word. (Since I’m a creationist...
I always wondered: how did a Mako Shark become
a Stingray? No outrage detected over this anomaly?)

•2014-2019...Stingray name miraculously
re-resurrected (alleged to pay “homage”. I didn’t
hear a whole bunch of outrage over this event.)

•2020-xxxx...Stingray name still above ground;
not yet on life support. (I’m detecting some
outrage over this continuation of “homage”?)

Just an observation.

Bob

No outrage because there was really no reason to remove the Stingray name after 1976 as the car didn't change, well in 78' the bubbled rear window appeared but even then, the body soldered on through 82' with only a "refresh" for 1980, a sign of things to come in 84', "kinda".

Reckon that might be a mater of personal opinion, yours, mine, and others.

Same might be said about the Chevelle, , some may lean towards the later '71-'72 years, the LS6, others like myself like the '66 though '69 model years much better.

Mine looked exactly like this, and as well in the exact same spotless show condition, in and out. Of the many cars I once owned, my '67 Vette, and the '68 Camaro are two I wish I would've kept and still had. A friend still owns the '68 Camaro. And also the '66 T-Bird Town Coupe in White with Red Leather Interior I once owned which was stolen from me.

If given a choice between a brand new ZL1 Camaro, and the '68 SS396, I think you'd know my answer.

Nope...it’s the 1970 Chevelle for me! :xyxthumbs:

I’ve let a few slip away, meself.

Questions I might ask, and wonder about, is how long in years will the 2020 Stingray model and C8 design carry?

Will there be possible minor body changes in 2021? Will the C8 only be a short flash in the pan model, killed off for the C9 in 2-3 years? Reckon no one knows those answers, and only time will tell?

I might suspect the 2020 model to be "bug ridden". Hopefully any-all would be easily correctable.

Great questions about the C8 Mark. I'm sure the side "cove" will be enlarged for the 5.5L twin turbo in the ZO6/ZR1 models, maybe the ZO6 will get the 4.2L twin turbo DOHC V8, ZR1 getting the 5.5L twin turbo DOHC V8 and "The Zora" getting the ZR1 engine but with electric motors to power the front wheels, this giving it the magical 1000 HP, stay "tuned" ==========

Since 1953, Corvettes have had their engines in front of the driver. But that all changed on Thursday night in Southern California when Chevy revealed the production version of the eighth-generation Vette, carrying the legendary Stingray nameplate.
The C8 Corvette, as we have long known, would find its V8 engine moved from under the long hood up front to a compartment between the driver and the rear wheels. This mid-engine design is considered optimal for balanced sports-car handling and is de rigueur on supercars from Ferrari and Lamborghini. The epic new Ford GT that won the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans also has a mid-engine design.
It wasn't as if the old C7 design wasn't successful. The racing version of the Corvette also won Le Mans and, more than any other Vette, convinced enthusiasts that the two-seater was a proper American supercar. The C7 Stingray was Business Insider's first-ever Car of the Year, in 2014.
But the writing was on the wall. Chevy needed to do something different to keep the Corvette relevant and competitive. Rumors about a mid-engine Vette have circulated for years, but this time around, General Motors finally took the plunge.
"Corvette has always represented the pinnacle of innovation and boundary-pushing at GM. The traditional front-engine vehicle reached its limits of performance, necessitating the new layout," GM President Mark Reuss said in a statement.
"In terms of comfort and fun, it still looks and feels like a Corvette, but drives better than any vehicle in Corvette history. Customers are going to be thrilled with our focus on details and performance across the board," he added.
Here's a closer look at the newest Corvette, which goes on sale later this year for a sort of staggering base price of $60,000:

^^I disagree.

But, on the other hand:
(alluding to what I mentioned earlier)
perhaps my older eyes can’t see it.

Then again:
Which year and model Camaro
are you talking about? TIA

I’m going to go out on a limb, and say it’s
safe to say that: since the January, 1953
debut of the EX-122 Concept/Show Car:

and/or any of the Hi-Po variants debut. :)

I actually think rear end looks good but 100% With Klasse Act about being iconic. I think changes are made to the icon and those cues are taken from it and trickle down to the rest of the line not the other way around. That being said beautiful car

Also, what an evolution from that original Blue-Flame 6 banger, Bob.

Imagine if the C8 would've debuted with a version of the ATS-V TT 3.6L! Even with the same 500 hp, which would've been VERY easy to do, I bet those who like the looks wouldn't be able to see it through the modern, TT V6 power, take it to the bank
