Here's the Introduction to the book...

Introduction

One of the most common questions I get asked goes like this,

Mike if you could only have one tool, which tool would you choose?

That’s a tough question because I tend to take on wetsanding projects which really require at a minimum 2-3 tools to do it right. That said, if the above question is asked in the context of only detailing cars for money, that is taking neglected cars and removing the defects to restore a like new finish, then hands-down I would choose the Flex 3401.

At the time I’m writing this how-to book, the Flex 3401 is the most powerful dual action polisher on the market that can be used for doing both show car detailing and production detailing. This includes,
1. Mechanically decontaminating paint using tools like the Nanoskin Autoscrub Pads.

2. Correcting paint, that is removing serious below surface paint defects like swirls, scratches, water spots and oxidation.

3. Polishing paint, that means after the correction step re-polishing the paint using a less aggressive pad and product to maximize gloss and clarity.

4. Sealing paint, this means to machine apply either a carnauba wax or a synthetic paint sealant to both seal the surface and provide protection as well as create a uniform appearance.

5. Production detailing which means doing 1-step and 2-step procedures to daily drivers for maximum profits.
The above five detailing procedures cover the entire spectrum of car detailing and the Flex 3401 with the right pads, products and techniques will excel at tackling all of these procedures and do it faster than any other tool without the risk of instilling swirls or burning through the paint.

I’ve had the good fortune of visiting the Flex plant in Steinheim, Germany and have seen their manufacturing process first hand, I even shared pictures from the trip here,

I can tell you from experience and from my background working in Class 9000 Cleanroom for Hewlett-Packard, that Flex tools are manufactured to the highest quality standards in the world.

What this means to you and me are these tools are pro-grade, that is they are designed to put into a grueling high production shop 6-days a week and do what they are supposed to do and that’s work for you.

If you’re looking for one tool, at least one tool to start with, that won’t let you down and can handle whatever project you throw at it… get the Flex 3401.
