New Order - Am I missing anything?

Hey folks. I recently ordered all of the stuff I needed to detail interiors and am now looking at doing the exteriors of our cars and possibly some friends/family. I also have the stuff to do a basic wash (Meguiar's GC soap, MF mitt, brushes for wheels, one green guzzler drying towel).

Here is what I've thrown in the cart. Anything obvious that I am missing? I want to opti-coat my car as it has a few spots where the clear-coat has come off. The car isn't worth a lot and I don't want it to get worse. I'm also thinking I'll opti-coat my wife's subaru legacy. Is one bottle enough to get 2 cars done? If not, I'll probably just do my wife's whole car and use whatever is left on mine.

Do you think I should have a sealant on there? As we are in MN, I want a durable wax for winters if I decide to use that instead of the opti-coat on my car other others. I hear 845 is the way to go. Would it be better if I layered it over a sealant like WGDGPS or doesn't it make much of a difference?

What do you think for pad selection? Will those colors get the job done or should I alter the type of pad and/or colors?

On the GG DA, is the 25ft cord really worth $30 or can I get away w/ just using an extension cord?

Thanks in advance.

IMHO I would get the PC XP over the GG. I have seen way too many complaints from the GG breaking while I can't ever remember reading about a PC breaking.

There "should" be enough OC for both cars so I wouldn;t even worry about getting the wax or a sealant.

Interesting note on the PC. As I've never used a DA, I'm indifferent between the two. I've done quite a bit of reading on here but would appreciate more opinions on the matter.

For the wax, that was more in mind for when I do friends and/or family. Also, can wax be layered over opti-coat or is that just kind of overkill?

EDIT: And one more question. Is 8oz of M105 and M205 enough to get at least 2 cars done?

8oz is plenty for 2 cars
nothing is going to stick to OC very so topping probably won't do much good.

I have heard that the GG is a more powerful machine. Also it has a life time warrenty.
I beleive that all layering is a bunch of nonsense hype to sell more product. The 845 is like iron, but if you are using the opti coat which is suspose to be magic, I see no need for the 845 step.

In my opinon the Opti- coat and like are Snake oil and a waste of money. The 845 alone can last 6 month and has proven track record. While the opti coat stuff has none.

Furthermore- detailing nuts will not wait two years to do their cars. So even if it works
why pay 60 bucks.

It is not my money- but I hate to see people taken in.
Good luck

I had thought of that. It might be best for me to just get comfortable w/ the DA and waxing before I go to something like opti-coat (if I ever do). I think I'll take it off and wait to see some more reviews. I know one guy (can't remember who) is comparing both Opti-coat and Cquartz and is going to post something in a few months. I initially wanted it to kind of seal in my clear coat failure on my car to prevent it from getting any worse more than anything.

On the DA, that's why I originally chose the GG. I've read about some durability issues but they have a lifetime warranty and I won't be using it a ton. Still open to either the GG or the PCXP, however.

Switch the 2 yellow pads to 2 gray. 105 on a orange pad should be enough.

I initially put OC on the places that I didn't want to work on all the time. eg rocker panels, roof, lower part of front & rear bumper skirts, wheels. I liked it so much for dirt and water shedding that I ended up using on the whole car. It's not as good for bugs.

One thing that I did that I normally wouldn't do all the time was a 3 step correction on every panel since I wasn't going to have to do it again for a long time.

Everyone keeps asking if I have a new car.

Do you mean black, by chance? I chose the LC 5.5 inch flat pads and they don't list gray. Maybe a different kind of pad would be better?

Just get a nice extension cord from HD or lowes. Then you can use it for everything around the house.

That life time warranty doesn't do much good when you're in the middle of a job and it breaks...

I think you need to do a bit more reading on the product before you come to that conclusion. You may not know it but OC has been on some cars for several years now and still holing up.

I'd probably do 6.5" pads with the griots and maybe add a medium cut polish in there.

I'd probably drop opti-coat for now, and pick up some Stoners, UTTG, and maybe a few MF towels?.. It's up to you, but it looks pretty good to me.

And no, the extra cord isn't worth it to me. I've never had a problem using an extension cord. It's easier to roll up than something attached to the machine. You don't always need that extra length.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't get into details [pun not intendted] but as part of my previous "interior stuff" order I got stoners, 303 aerospace protectant and some MF towels (I'll probably get more anyhow).

Hit pakshak for the mf towels and ditch 105 for megs d300.... ditch org flat pad for mf cutting pad.... sacrifice the 303 for UTTG for a new car or get G-techniq trim restore for faded trim....
