6 months? Sounds like a super long time, unless you got some color changing paint! I'm sure you can carnauba wax a car without a problem.

On my side the painter told me 3 months . PPG Waterborn .

If the painter said 6 months, wait 6 months. Do not listen to someone on a forum when you get instructions from the person who knows the paint used. I highly suggest just wiping it down with water whenever it gets dirt on it.
Ultimately it's your car but I suggest being safe than sorry.

+1. I agree double check with the painter and maybe question why so long. Standard is 30-60 days before waxing. Newer processes are water vs solvent based but techniques vary around the country depending on OSHA guidelines and expenses.
To be on the safe side go with the painters instrustions. You can wash with a safe automotive soap just nothing with wax or sealer in it.
A friend of mine just had her car repainted and the painter said wait 30-60 days before waxing. I told her the same thing when it was in the shop.

And.... nothing stops you from asking "WHY" you need to wait that long. Is it due to the paint used? Is this his standard verbiage for any job? Other factors?

Thanks for sharing those Evan. Both articles explain "sealing fresh paint", this one goes into depth as this is one of those topics that comes up all the time...
Don't wax your car for at least 30 days!
