We just had painter do a base/clear paint job on an Infinity Q45. He scuffed and painted over the original paint. He said he put 3 or 4 good coats of clear over top.He wet sanded, buffed and polished it. He didn't do such a good job finishing it.
There are tons of scratches, swirl marks, and a few holograms in it. I decided to take a swing at finishing it out. I tried a few 'least aggressive steps.' I ended up going all the way down to a rotary, wool cutting pad, and 3D cutting pad. I then finished out the test spot with a DA, LC white pad, and HD Polish.
I am a bit flustered that a lot of the deeper swirls didn't come out with the rotary. This painter may have done a few things in between these top coats of clear. He 'might' have had to move the car out of his paint booth in between coats... It is pollen season here in NW Florida. We measure it by the inch. Hmmm....
Is there such a thing as having swirls in between coats of clear?
Thanks!
I will try and attach an image (this was taken after the first or second attempt, but before busting out the rotary).
