Ok, so I'm going to repaint my classic Corvette with a professionally applied modern paint job (primer, tint coat, clear coat.)

1. How long should I wait before applying the first coat of ???

2. What is the recommended product (type, name not necessary, but if you carry it, go ahead) to apply for the best long term protection of the new surface of the car? , and then

3. What should be applied to maintain #2, and how often assuming it's a garaged car taken out for short trips and shows only?

4. I hear of quick detailers, with 2 and 3 accomplished, what quick detailer, if any, should be used just after arriving at a show site?

30-60 days (stay closer to the 60 days) before applying any coating or wax. You may apply any body shop safe polish for protection in the 30-60 days

If you want to do less work and have a great protection life then look so something like Opti-coat 2.0 permeant paint coating. If you don't want then a paint sealant will be the next best option. You can if you want top paint sealants with a pure carnuba paste wax after the sealant has curd for 12 hours.

3. What should be applied to maintain #2, and how often assuming it's a garaged car taken out for short trips and shows only?

[I]If you are going with a paint coating then normal 2 bucket wash methods and wax or quick detailers will be all that you need.[/I]

Any quick detailers will do. I have Chemical Guys V7 and Megs M135 Synthetic spray detailer.

As with any topic, I'm sure there are multiple opinions. I asked this question again in a topic covering the Opti-Coat 2.0. In that thread, the response was that it could be applied immediately on top of a modern paint job with no waiting. The page for it on the main web store seems to also indicate this.

So, just to be sure, is it ok to have the body shop do a modern paint job with clear coat, and then 24 hours later install Opti-Coat 2.0 in your opinion?

In the mean time I'm going to see what else I can find. I find it hard to believe that placing opti-coat on a freshly painted car that fast is safe,.

Ok dug up a few things from a thread back in 2011:

I personally would wait 30 days and regardless of the condition, I would at least do a Finish polish before application, check for nibs, holograms, sanding marks, etc.

You'll find a handful of people in the forum world that will argue it's okay to seal fresh paint before 30 days on just about any auto related discussion forum.

I've never read or heard of a single paint manufacture that states their official recommendation is before 30 days.

So you can listen to a forum member or a paint manufacture, your choice.

I've also never seen a new paint job fail because it was sealed before 30 days.

My question is always... what's the hurry? If a person with a brand new paint job on the entire car is going to instantly put the car back into service then a person might consider giving the paint an extra layer of protection but if it were me I would wait till 30 days passed just to be careful because chances are nothing bad is going to happen anyway.

Isn't that at least one of the ideas behind waxing any car, new paint or old paint, to protect it from something bad happening? Modern clear coats are pretty touch to start with.

Thanks for your research. As you can see from this thread, the rep, I think from the manufacturers of Opti-Coat 2.0, says you can install on fresh paint: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/64273-polymer-quartz-coatings.html#post868167

I have ordered their kit, but once the car is painted, I plan on just driving home and leaving the Vette in the garage for 30 days, dust it off and then applying the sealant. Probably safer that way, and with a June scheduled paint job, here in Florida, also too hot for the daytime car shows anyway!
