Hello to all. Been detailing for many years, use to for a living. Got on at a plant near home some years ago, since i mainly do detailing for friends and a hobby. over the years I've tried out many products and i always come back to mostly Poorboys products.. mater of fact i have a shipment of Poorboys due to be delivered tomorrow.. Well I'll be trying to check in here as often as I can..

Welcome to the forum. Why did you stop detailing for a living?

Welcome to the forum. Why did you stop detailing for a living?
I got out of detailing for a main income mainly because the area i live in has become flooded with the pop up $25-$50 detail shops and about 10 touchless car washes per mile.. Couldn't get the kind of money that i needed out of people anymore. Got tired of hearing "well i can get a detail up the street for $25. Tried explaining the difference between what i can do and what those kind of places can do. That and i live in rural WV, not a lot of money around anymore, can't blame people for not wanting to spend hard earned money on not so new cars that live in our climate with all the salt in the winters.. And I landed a very good paying job at a chemical plant 3/10ths of a mile from my home. I Still do a few cars from time to time when people i know mainly get a new car, I might see it once or twice before they quit coming back. But I still enjoy detailing our trucks and some on the side.

Welcome to AGO! I do use Poorboy's Products too and they are good stuff

Same problem around here in Montreal. Cheap car washes on pretty much every street corner. I do few details, usually one or two per week but I only serve high end markets. I have no interest to compete with 6$ hand wash car washes. Well, you landed on the right site, plenty of people here that share your passion.

This is really one sad true story. We're about to open a car wash shop hopefully by September. We also have, I think, seven cheap car wash which offers cheap detailing here. I think we'll be in direct competition with the "cheap" car wash but we'll offer premium wash (clay and premium wax sealants) and high-end detailing to have something that the others don't (and can't) offer. I known it will not give me a lot of clients but I still have the "cheap" car wash to cover gaps.
