New to detailing, problem with Porter 7424 and swirls

Thanks. I think I'd find it a lot more therapeutic if I had a spacious garage to work on it in, but I'm cramped under a small canopy to do all my work under. On top of that, having to fit it in on a weather-agreeable day without windy conditions to blow stuff on top of the paint makes it a little stressful. But I can see how having a garage and doing work on it would be very therapeutic.

In terms of maintenance, is there a wax or something I can do by hand every six months or so that would keep it in nice shape and get rid of the swirls at the same time? I don't mind the porter cable, but I think I'd like to try it by hand better. Any waxes you'd recommend that possibly have minor swirl correction built in, if such a thing exists?

...on a side note I plan on NEVER using an automatic car wash again. It was just too easy during this last harsh winter to take it through than bear the 20 degree temps.

I can understand that. When I bought my house, I looked for one with a detached garage. IT was unfinished when I bought it. Over the years I have insulated, heated drywalled, etc. Still working on it, but, it is coming along nicely.

There are a multitude of cleaner waxes out there. IMO, they will help, but, you will never get as good a result as easily as you will with an orbital. There won't be nearly as much work if all you are doing is clenaer wax with your orbital. I dont use them, so I cant really recommend one for you.

Glad I found this thread as I'm doing the exact same car and same color tomorrow with comparable ingredients, it will be my second time using the PC had decent results for the first time on my girlfriend's car, hopefully will be better tomorrow. I am going to pass on the 105 for a few years till I need it on my car since it is a 2010 and doesn't have anything I hope I would need the 105 for. I will be sure to make sure I keep my car as cool as possible tomorrow and will do all of the work in the garage.

Today was day one of detailing, I washed car using 2 bucket method, clayed, then quick washed again to get detailing residue off. Also layed down 2 layers of Poor boy's wheel sealant on all 8 wheels I have for the car. Tomorrow I'm busting out the PC, I plan on using 205 with a 5" orange pad. Then wipe down car with IPA and plush microfiber. Then use White pad and Klasse AIO, Then Klass Sealant with Gray pad. I will also detail the exhaust tips. Monday I will put the finishing touchess by washing one more time, then using S100 carnuba was with red pad and detail the interior and engine bay.

Don't mean to thread hijack but since I'm detailing the same car figured I would add to the results for any future Accord owners.

Using the orange 5" pad and M205 worked very well, didn't remove all of the swirls but removed probably 80% of them on the hood and trunk and rear bumper. I should have taken more before pics, but you can get the idea of how things turned out from my pics. Tomorrow will be the last day of detail and I will post a few more pics...

This is my second detail in my life, and second time using a PC. It was much more rewarding doing the correction on a black car versus my girlfriend's silver stratus where it was hard to tell if I was taking the scratches out without pulling the car out of the garage. I'm sure the next time I do this I'll be even better, and I'll alot an entire day just for polishing to get the whole car, I would have loved to do more of the car besides the rear bumper, trunk and hood, but time wouldn't allow. After polishing, I IPAed the areas I polished and the applied Klasse AIO with 6.5" white pad, then removed with plush microfiber and applied Klasse Sealant with 6.5" gray pad. Tomorrow I will put the finishing touches on the exterior and then do the interior and engine bay.
