New to detailing! Trying to get rid of these swirl marks!!

Hey my names Martin I'm from Charlotte NC and I was wondering if any of you Guys could help me out! So I'm a new but I know what wet sanding compounds polished and waxes do but I've only really done it by hand ( which never seems to do any good with anything but wax ) I've Tryed useing just back and fourth method but my car still seems to have swirls. Pretty much I'll polish and wax it and it looks decent but then it rains and.. Well doesn't look that great.

So I'm wondering what could do ( on a cheap college budget) to fix this

I have Meg's ultimate compound polish and wax and a cheap 6" ryobi orbital buffer that I think does like 4800 rpms,
I've Tryed useing it with a micro fiber pad and compound but it doesn't seem to do a whole lot and might be make on got worse, I've also noticed that compound on my hood is a pain to get off...

So I was wondering what you guys recommend or what I can do, I've read about the Porter cable 7424 wich looks really good and mega 105, Also I'm wondering what pads I'd need? So far I feel like in just majoring it worse haha

Whoa, that car needs more than a little help with swirls! Be careful with those mirrors it looks like the clear is beginning to fail unless that's just the gunk that's on the black window trim also, and those bug splatters are probably etched in on the front.

Sounds like you might be using too much UC if it's hard to get off the surface--if you're using it with a MF pad you need to clean the pad at least every panel to get residue off.

If you're going to get a PC 7424XP you can just stick with your UC, maybe follow with UP. Pads I'd go for these (tangerine and crimson) Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5 1/2 x 7/8 Inch Foam Pads , hydrotech foam pads for water-based polishes, lake country foam pads, buffing pads , or if you want to stick with MF something like this: Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System 5 Inch Starter Kit, paint correction kit, dual action polishing kit or buy the pads separately.

Thanks for the reply, I've seen a lot of people useing orange foam pads which seem to look good when they use it, I'm kinda worried that my Ryobi buffer isn't strong enough to cut and get rid of swirls, ( I know my paint isn't the best but I want to get it as close as possible to a factory foing I guess and not just cover it up) and yeah my mirrors are fading...... And that stuff in my trim I have no idea what it is or if it will come off, also I was wondering what should I use to seal it after? I'm kids looking more into foam pads because it seems like a lot of people are useing them instead of buffing with micro fiber
 
Welcome.

My first opinion is regarding your technique with the polisher, you're probably not working product correctly.

You must watch as many Mike Phillips Videos you can, specially those on how to remove swirls using PC like machines.

Watch his technique, how he spreads product, the speed of arm movement he's using, the pressure he suggests, how many passes he does etc.

Try to easy up on pressure on your last few passes, this may help you getting product off in the end. Also, clean your pad often.

In my opinion, the car you showed needs also to be clayed (rarely a car don't needs to), since the contaminants it exhibits are likely to be adhered to the paint.

Claying will give you a smooth foundation, from where the polishing process should start of.

Please, let me know what you got from my input, and what else can I do for you.

Skip the PC 7424 and go right for the Flex 3401. I have recently just got the PC 7424HD, and wished I had gotten the Flex. The PC is nice but after reading reviews on the Flex and the gearing and such, I'm buying one myself. So if anyone is interested I have a 2 week old PC 7424HD that I will sell for the price of the non PC HD model.
 
if you want, come on up to Raleigh on weekend, and we can work on it. i have a Flex 3401 with the hybrid pads. i also use Wolfgang and Menzerna products. im pretty sure with the stuff i have and some hard work we can get is all fixed

This is a very nice gesture and I would definiely take it up so that you can learn.
