Hi all, I already have a large shop, but no floor drain. But only a block away I have a self operated foam brush and wand car wash. Is it OK to use this for the exterior wash of the detail? I am thinking that interior carpet cleaning would be the main focus. It does sound bacwards from the other start-up posts I read here. Input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bob,

You'll want to steer WAY clear of the brushes at those coin operated car washes. That is, if you care at all about the finish on your car. If you think about it, or have noticed anyone using those brushes, you'll know that they're consistently being used on Jeeps and other trucks that just got finished with a weekend in the mud. Now, all that mud and dirt is trapped in that brush, along with pebbles and all sorts of other junk you don't want drug across your paint. Not to mention, the bristles on those brushes aren't exactly the most delicate, either. At most, use the coin-op to spray your car off if you're not after a showroom finish. Just know that the soaps in those machines are fairly strong; strong enough to strip the wax and some sealants off your paint. Look into using the 2 bucket method with a grit guard if you're wanting the best for your car.

Ive brought my own mf mitt and supplies with me to a self service wash. All I really needed was the water and a place to wash. Once your done with the wash you can take it back to your shop for the rest.

I would also stay away from the foming brush. You never know what kind of grit are in those.

Hi bobthewelder...

NO! I personally wouldn't use that facility's foam-brushes...Bring your own wash buckets/car-wash shampoo/media, if you possibly can.

Glad you have a large shop.:xyxthumbs:

-Are there no outside hose bibbs?
-An installed floor-drain to the outside perimeter of your shop, that meets the local EPA standards, may call for a special permit.
***(Be worth it in the long run; and, is the best solution, IMO.)***

Or...
Perhaps the crew and I could stop over, at your earliest convenience, to have a look-see. :D

Best regards,

J/K
