Starting to finally have some decent vehicles and moved iff gravel so I decided its time to get into detailing a bit. Thanks to this site I purchased my first DA. Couldnt affors a lot so I went with Harbor Freight DA. And thanks to the guy that found the 3m kit at advanced on sale ill be starting with that. Not much but I figure its a start. Trying to find some extra pads locally but having a hard time.

If I can't find pads locally that fit what are some decent pads that won't break the bank. Not cleaninhlg anything high end so I don't think I need to spend an aem and a leg right iff the bat

Meguiars microfiber cutting pad & lake country white flat pads. I generally don't really need outside of those 2 pads unless I get some finicky paint. Grab some ultimate compound & ultimate polish from walmart.

You could probably get all of that for about $50. I like to rotate my pads out every couple panels. I absolutely love the meguiars MF cutting pads. Order some from Autogeek and you won't be sorry.

Get some good pads and they'll last you a while if you take care of them. Pads are relatively cheap anyway. I've actually found that buying pads locally is more expensive than ordering them off the internet.

I started out my detailing career with Cobra Cross Groove pads.

An orange cutting pad, a white polishing pad, and a red finishing pad should get you off and running.

So I probably want 3 pads of each before I get started

Why do different companys use different color pads for what they do. My 3m ones in the kit have yellow as cut, blue for restore and white for finish

I have the Harbor Freight DA. The first thing I did was change the backing plate to a 5' plate, $15.00. I use Buff & Shine 5 1/2" pads. I have four of each pad, they are flat pads. You can get pads in mix and match 5 or 6 pads to a pack. I have not tried the MF Pads yet.

Thanks for the reply. What backing plate did you go wit? Or does it not really matter

I went with the B&S 5" B/plate. There are some B/plates that are a little different. I'm not sure which ones. I am also going to get 3 1/2" B/plate and 4" pads.

Go to a body shop and ask them where they get their pads from. often its a local Auto body paint provider. Something that says Auto Color. They have pads. I got mines from a place here call tuso something auto color. Drive around and see if you spot one, you should have one in your city.

Awsome thanks. We actually have a local major paint provider and parts provider. Didn't even think of checking with them
