I am looking at new alloys for my black 2012 Tacoma. I would like to get the opinion of AutoGeek Online. People on the truck forums don't even consider how easy a wheel is to clean or maintain. In additon I trust your opinion more than others. I have narrowed it down to two options (I think). They will be wrapped in 265/75/16 Hankook Dynapro ATM. Thanks in advance for your help!:xyxthumbs:

1: I have been leaning toward these recently. I think they look modern and tough. Cleaning them should be pretty straight foward.

2: The TRD Ivan Stewart 5 spokes have been around a long time. I have always been attracted to these. The machined lip and center cap kind of concerns me a little. They certainly wont be neglected but I wonder if any pitting would occur anyway?

I like the first choice. They look nice and they don't appear difficult to clean. They don't have those bead lock wheels for the Tacoma?

First one reminds me of a Chevrolet wheel and the second one just looks like something from the 90's. If it were me, I would go with the first one. It looks sleeker and a little more refined. The second one just looks like something you'd find on a Mitsubishi eclipse or Honda civic in the late 90's.

Love those wheels, really nice!

I have a 2012 TRD offroad Tacoma as well. I really like the FJ Cruiser wheels in the first pic but I would have them powder coated anthracite grey. Unless your lucky enough to find the special edition wheels that come anthracite grey from the factory. What color is your Taco?

I too really like the Anthracites! I have looked around a little for them but even if I did find an authentic set it would probably be over budget. So many people like the Trail Teams edition which is the same wheel painted black. I really don't care for black wheels especially on a black truck, they always look dirty to me.

I bought the truck with the standard steel wheels. I soon found a set of TRD alloys from a 2000 Tundra. I refinished them myself and have been pleased for the past year. Since I finally can justify getting rid of the terrible factory tires I would like to start fresh.

The TRD beadlocks (fake) are readily available in bronze which I'm not crazy about, expecially on black.

Another vote for the first ones as well and put a good wheel coating on them. My taco has the factory trd wheels and the inside barrel just gets beat to hell. Also, the large caliper on the front will pretty much block one of the 5 spoke cavities making that area difficult to clean unless you pull forward. In all, the cleared alum wheels hold up very well and with a coating they are a piece of cake to clean. Just the barrels get the brunt of the damage.

I have an 07 Off-Road and have always loved the look of those black FJ rims. They look great on Taco's. That has my vote over the Ivan's any day.

Thanks for the input! :xyxthumbs:

I see you have fun with your badges. What did you do with the ones on the tailgate?

Go with the first one. I have the XD797 Spy on my 2011 Silverado. I love the look, but absolutely hate cleaning the fake bead lock.

I'm so tempted to go back to the old centerline modular just to get away from all of the nooks and crannies of todays modern wheel styles. Those things were so easy to clean and looked great on my old 85 K5 Blazer.

I think you guys just verified what I already decided. I just wanted to find out if I was missing something. Probably the only reason I considered the 2nd wheel (Ivan Stewarts) is I have fond memories of them on modded Toyotas past. I have a soft spot for vintage things I guess. Thank you so much for the replies!

The first one is my pick, but whichever you do choose you should also pick up some opti coat from AG and coat them while new.

Haha yeah I did. I figured I would do something a bit different and always liked the yellow/black combo.

This is what I did with the rear:

I am not a big fan of the chrome emblems. I think the back looks x10 better de-badged.

The TRD wheels are nice. My uncle has a white wpecial edition FJ that has the black TRD wheels. They look simple to clean and have a nice design.
