I found a great use for Optimum No Rinse (ONR). One of the problems in a shop environment is compound dust (even the "no dust" will have some powder residue) and getting it off the car before glazing or polishing.

I've tried mf towels (caused scratches), compressed air (only works with loose dust...not the splatter which dries hard on the car's surface), and a time-consuming: lower the car off the rack, move other cars, setup the power washer, wash, dry, bring the car back in and re-rack on the lift...a definite time consumer.

So, I mixed some ONR in a bucket of warm water and used a microfiber to wipe in a single pass and a clean, dry mf to dry. WHAT A NICE, QUICK JOB!

Compound dust is very abrasive and nothing short of a power wash worked before using the ONR.

Now, I'm using it between each step until I apply Meg's #26 and the finish is scratch free.

Just a quick tip for those of you that use compounds.

Really, this Optimum No Rinse sounds like a great product. I do all my work in my garage and this could come in handy.

Thanks for the revie Toto.

I don't have Optimum No Rinse wash yet, but I'm sure I can try the same thing with DP 4-in1. Thanks for the tip, Toto!!!

Toto,
Very interesting post about your new use of ONR.
Are you using one wash bucket with 2 gallons of water and 1oz of ONR?
Are you using a Grit Guard in your wash pail?
Which brand microfibers are you using for washing and drying?
I have ONR, but haven't used it yet.

Thanks in advance. And I really enjoy your posts and your work.

I typically use 1.5 capfuls of ONR to a gallon of water. Remember, I'm not doing a severe wash: merely removing compound dust. I use a decent microfiber towel to "wash" and a good one to wipe dry. I don't worry about completely drying because I'm going back over the car with glaze or #26.

I agitate the microfiber in the solution during washing to make sure the compound is out of the towel.

So far, I've used this method on 3 cars with good results.

Great tip! I have DP 4 in 1, so almost pretty much the same thing :p

Toto, have you used this on a black colour vehicle? Just wondering and thanks for the tip on how touse it 1.5capfuls to a gallon is wicked....I ordered a gallon of this stuff should last me if I use it the way you suggested. Another question since I haven't used it does it foam up like soap?
