I'm getting down to the short strokes in purchasing a 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT in Jet Black Metallic. This will be only my second new vehicle in my 62 years on this planet and I'm as excited as a high-schooler!

Based on the assumptions that the paint will only have very minor scratches I am planning to do a glase with my Flex, sealant(109)and wax.

This will be my first black in a looong time, but I just cuoldn't resist after seeing some of the miracles that the forum members have performed!

Congratulations on the new car!!! Black is the best and worst color there is ;) It shows dirt and swirls and dings quicker and more clearly than any other color but when it's clean.... :D

If you enjoy detailing it's great, if, on the other hand, you don't enjoy the process, but just want a clean looking car, black sucks...

I am well aware of the problems with black, especially on a 30,000+ miles per year daily driver. I wash/mini detail 3-4 times per week. As to black specifically, I will live for the 20-30 minutes that it looks near perfect!:awesome:

I'm not sure who to attribute this to - "Black paint isn't a colour, its a part-time job"

Couldn't agree more! Can't wait to see pics of the new car all shined up.

Any suggestions on prep and LSP for my new baby?Feed back please

Prep... Menz Nano or PO85RD w/gray pad and Flex (just guessing since we don't really know the condition).

LSP... Is so much a matter of personal taste and budget. Souveran paste looks great on black (yes, even black metalic - like my truck), but lacks longevity and isn't slick enough for me during polin season. :( For now, with the heavy pollen, I'm sticking with a sealant with no wax topper, probably DG 601 + 105 but maybe WG DGPS, just can't decide.

haha......never heard that before as a quote.........too funny! And true!! Did you put that in your book?:)

Jeez guys, ease up on the not so nice comments on black, I'm sensitive.:o

I'm looking for some positive reinforcement and helpful advice.:D

I don't think the folks are bashing black paint, and think most of us will agree it is the most beautiful color when properly detailed. It just sooo hard to keep it looking it's best all the time, but is very rewarding when it is.

:whs:

Nobody's "bashing" black at all... I drive a black truck myself and love it!

Congratulations on the up and coming new car. You may want to tell the dealer to NOT wash your car. Dealers will more than likely induce some bad swirls. Then once you get it home you can care for it properly. Keep in mind a new car goes through a lot to get to your driveway. There are contaminants on your paint that can be removed by claying. Here's a pic of clay from a brand new BMW that came staight from the dealer (dealer did not wash it). Good luck with your new car and black vehicles rock.

hahah:iagree: I just may have to use your statement as my desktop background. I think having a black car has actually made me even more picky. If that is possible. I know I annoy my husband sometimes.

I have it on the highest authority that the paint contaminants on the VIBE will be of a higher quality than anything that BMW can produce.:D
