Okay guys!!! I JUST got my new wheels......:awesome: 275 18" front and 325 19" rear. I would like to make them :Picture: perfect. I bought high polish aluminum from ccw and I'm sure there are people out there that know better than I do how to care for these wheels. I plan to polish them before I even put them on the car. So I'm asking for advice from my fellow detailers as to what you would recommend for slight surface scratches, (that I know will come with time), how to keep the brake dust from building up on them, and OF COURSE keep the ASSUME shine that we all strive for. I have done a search but didn't find a lot of information, and I thought that there maybe a new product out for these purposes or some new insite on this task.
 
Well for the scratches I guess a metal polish would work and you already have one. As for protection, a lot of people use Klasse AIO. I have that on my wheels, and the dirt comes off on my weekly wash with soap and water. This also helps to keep them looking shiney, so that is what I would do. No waxes though.

What kind of durability do you get from AIO? Could a idiot like me top AIO with SG?
 
I've been using the DP wheel glaze and have been very happy with it so far. I've used it for about a month now.

Okay....I'm sorry but what is SG?
 
I used AIO and then a layer of Poorboys EX-P on my factory rims.. They are not chrome though...

SG is Klasse's sealant.. similiar to EX-P.

These are not chrome either.
 
Right.. when I read your post, I saw high-polished aluminum, and somehow it got processed as Chrome.... Duh!!

Anyway... Killr is the 'wheel guy'... see what he says..

How long does this last for you? Is it something you have to reapply every month or so? Or do you get 3 to 6 months out of it?
 
I have almost 2 months with PB WS x3 and the water still beads right off.

I'm axnious to see what they will look like on the car. Yes I have heard this a lot but, I'm hoping that my regular cleaning will help keep them from getting any build up.
 
I have polished Boyds and I can tell you that I don't put any glazes or sealants on my wheels. If they stain, I'd probaby cry. I just use mothers billet polish AT LEAST once every two weeks on a powerball. In between, mothers all-wheel works pretty good. I heard that ZOOP was a waste of money. Just be sure to get all the water you can off them if it rains and don't let it sit in the lip and dry.

Very good information..... Isn't Mothers Billet Polish harsh/course?

Couldnt tell you, it was a suggestion I read on another thread..... Its only been on for 3 or 4 days now... :D

Hopefully this weekend I'll be putting EX-P layer 2 on the car and also layer 2 on the wheels....
One of these days I'll get my Max Wax LSP on the car... One of these days.....

CCW wheels just like my Iforged are polished/uncoated aluminum wheels. They are harder to care for .... just know this in advance. Aluminum starts to degrade and tarnish immediately in the environment. To date I have far from perfected the process , but heres what I know :

Washing --- using car wash soap and water when possible. Never use any store bought cleaners. I have found two wheel cleaners to date that work for harder cleanup, P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner and Griots Garage. Never clean them while hot and NEVER use an APC on them.

Polishing --- Mothers Billet and Power Polish are great products. A Powerball mini is an absolute necessity. P21S makes a polishing soap that you can use to clean these wheels also. It will make the wheels look white and cloudy, but immediately come back with polish to brand new status.

Protection --- I tried to score a sample of Zoop and they told me to screw off. Dumb move ! I have found that both Poorboys Sealant and DP Wheel Glaze work well and give about 4 weeks protection. I use them, and then just wash with soap and water.

They also make some polishing heads and some dremel heads for polishing. Really only needed on spoke areas when they loose that luster.

If I had to do it over again ..... chrome ALL THE WAY !!!
