Firs i want to say hi to everyone i've been lurking around trying to soak up some knowledge, here's the thing i get confused in the detaling process can someone please help explain the process to me? which goes first polish,wax or paint cleaner i've been known to keep a very clean vehicle and i'm more serious about the detail process then some and i think i should know how to detail the right way. in the past i've used mothers 123 process with good results but i see that there's tricks to the trade and i want in, any help will greatly appreciated...thanks in advance

Thanks alot guys i appreciate your help.i've read here that some of you guys have preferences on different waxes,polish and so on. now i ask are the products that can be had at a local autoparts store such as mothers,meguiars and others less productive then say pinnacle or other products that i see some of you guys use to detail? the reason i ask is i like my cars to shine and look in tiptop shape and i want the best shine possible.

There are good OTC (over the counter) products, but then boutique products are great and you have a lot of options and are almost always easier to use. OTC shampoos, such as Meguiar's Gold Class, NXT, DUragloss concentrated car wash (if you have a Car Quest close by you) are mentioned a lot. There's OTC tire shine, such as Armor All gel tire shine that get good reviews. A great glass cleaner that's OTC is Stoner's Invisible Glass. Well, pretty much there's a lot of good OTC products, and you can't go wrong with them. I would recommend though that you try not to buy any OTC tire cleaner, because there's a bunch out there that can mess up your wheels because of acid content. It's better to be safe and use water and car shampoo in a bucket with a wheel brush to clean your wheels. I'm sure there's some safe wheel cleaners out there, but I don't know of any. Hopefully someone can chime in. For microfiber towels, you're gonna have to go the boutique route. Autogeek's microfiber towels are unbeatable. I just don't use the Cobra microfiber towels for wheels, tires, door jams, and other real dirty places. That's where the cheap microfibers come in

Wow you guy really know your stuff!! okay what is a sealer? obviouisly it's not wax i thought you use wax as a sealer to preserve the shine and protect it, i have alot to learn. if i told you that my friends think i'm the gran puba of car detaling you guys would laugh but it's true i'm just glad they don't know about this site. and as for wheel cleaners i thought i just had some crappy chrome when they started peeling for know reason i guess it was the wheel cleaners.
