I guess this would count as my second exterior detail. I picked up the hobby last summer. So far I've done a full detail (interior and exterior) on my truck, the interior of my wife's old Excursion, and the interior of my mother-in-laws car.
This weekend I worked on the exterior of my wife's new 2008 VW Jetta. We just bought the car about 3 weeks ago. It obviously got a quick "used car lot detail" on it before we got it. There was compound EVERYWHERE on it and the right rear quarter panel had enough holograms on it to make a 3D movie! I made some good progress, but in some places I got less than stellar results. Just in general, it didn't seem like I was able to remove many of the RIDS all of this thing. Is the Volkswagon clear to hard to work with using 105/205? I read somewhere one guy used meg's 95 and 83 Another used the Menzerna brand. Is that what I need for this car?
I started with a good washing with Dawn, clayed with Pinnacle clay, then did the Meguiar's 105/205. There were several RIDS I didn't think were that bad that didn't clear up. Not sure if I need to spend more time and go over them more or what. The worst is two spots where it looks like the paint has oxidized. the Meg's twins didn't do anything for these spots. I'm open for some suggestions on how to fix them. I haven't got many "after" pictures yet. It started raining this afternoon, so I didn't get many pics. I've still got to go back tomorrow and apply my LSP. (Meg's NXT paste wax)
On with the pics...
Just backed it out of the garage, it was pretty dirty.

Here's a few pics of the horrible holograms on the right rear panel.

There were also some holograms on the hood.

Here's a before and after of the rear bumper. This is the stuff I was talking about. It looks a lot better, but I wasn't able to get everything off.
Here's a couple 50/50's of the hood

Here's the oxidation I was talking about. There's on spot on the roof near the sunroof and another spot on the right rear near the trunk lid. I can't feel anything with my finger in either place. Like I said, the Meguiar's 105 didn't phase this stuff. Any suggestions?

Here's a couple of "AFTERs." Remember, I'm not done yet.
