first time post, been lurking for a bit though. this site can be very overwhelming when your trying to find information, as it definitely has an abundance of great info and videos. now i know i may get some "do a search noob" responses, but i have, and I'm still a little confused, so hopefully you guys can help me out. i just bought a used pc 7424(non xp) for a good deal in hopes of producing better results in a little less time. well, at least better results. i need help with pad selection, and product usage. my vehicle is an 07 camry and its black. i have a lot of auto parts over the counter stuff, and some stuff i purchased because of this site. the products i really like are the klasse all in one, and the collinite 845. i also have some megs ultimate compound i used on a different car with great results. now so far, I've only used these products by hand, and have achieved okay results, but i wanna step it up a notch. my paint does have some swirls that i would like to remove, so i don't know if i should use the ultimate compound for that, or should i be trying something else? i wanna do swirl removing, then klasse aio, then a coat or two of the collinite. which pads should i get, and how many do i need initially? i like the lc flat pads, hybrid pads, and hydro tech pads. which should a noob get, and what colors for what i wanna do? also, if i wanna take the wax off, should i use the pc or by hand, and what would i put on the pc for wax removal? any recommendation on towels to wipe after each stage would be appreciated too. thanks for any help guys.

should i just pick up the megs da microfiber correction 5" starter kit?
 
Go with the Hydrotech pads. If you only want to remove swirls, you really only need a good polish like m205, but you can use Ultimate Polish instead. I wouldn't go directly from Ultimate Compound to KAIO, but Ultimate Polish to KAIO would be just fine. It really depends how good of a finish you want and how bad your paint really is. Whatever you use, if you like how it looks, apply KAIO and top it with whatever wax you want.

You can also get the Megs DA MF kit, but I still finish with foam pads. I would get 4+ cyan, 2+ tangerine, and 2 crimson to start with. They finish down so well, you can use cyan with both compound and polishes.

Kind of a tough question as there is no magic formula. Toyota black tends to be soft but there is no guarantee. To minimize purchases, I might go with something like Carport Fixer, a product that can be used for compounding, polishing and jewelling. Megs MF might be too much but you never know. Orange, white and black should cover the correction range. You would want 5.5" pads and a 5" backing plate.

If you get a swirl-free finish, use black with KAIO. Maybe blue with 845 or just do by hand. I remove wax by hand.
 
Not so fast with the 5 inch kit. New members will have to learn about backing plates,cut, etc. If you dont have a backing plate, you will need to buy a 5 in one to use with the system. I reccommend buying the meguiars pro line pads that come with the kit. I would skip buying liquids online until you learn about cut. Start with meguiars ultimate compound and do 4 passes left and right and 4 up on down on a 2ft by 2ft area. Move slowly. Wax cannot be removed by a da. It must be washed using 2 capfuls of dawn and 2 capfuls of car wash. I would start using Ultimate compound and see how that works. If cannot remove swirls after that, step it up to meguiars m105. Tip you can only add wax using a da. You will always need to use a finishing pad to add wax. If your really want to go above and beyond, you could buy a set of 12 red pads for about 100 dollars. I would also reccomend the detailers preference towels from cosco. They are in the industrail section and are in a 36 pack. Using scotch 3m painters tape is a good idea if you want to measure out a section . If you need wheel cleaner go with the Mothers all rim and tire cleaner, and order the daytona master speed brush to go with it from autogeek
 
Try the Megs or Optimum MF pads. I wish I had them when I started. You need a polish too.
 
wow, this forum is probably the quickest and most helpful that I'm on! thanks guys. so many different approaches here, but here is what i gathered between all the posts...get a couple orange, white, black, and blue pads. i like the optimum mf pads, but why is there only a polishing, and a cutting pad? are those the only two you'll need for swirl removal, polishing, and waxing? also, do i need a polish instead of the klasse aio? by hand i would wash, clay, klasse aio, and then collinite. now, with the pc, to remove swirls, should i compound, polish, then collinite? using a different polish?
 
Black will show any marring so you will likely need to finish polish.

On black, MF pads generally do not finish out well enough. Hence the need for foam pads.

KAIO is really a chemical cleaner whose cut comes from the pad it is used with.

finish polish? is that after the wax? any recommendations?
 
Before the sealant/wax. I'd recommended Carport Fixer earlier because lots versatility but Menz 85RD might be the best finish polish. AKA jewelling.

Wash clay compound polish jewel seal wax - as required.
