Hello everyone, I met a few members during the Woodstock, IL meet a few weeks ago. Everybody was super nice and gave me some great pointers.

I have a 2012 Phantom Black Audi R8. Car is a weekend car only, but even after 1.5 years of ownership, she's starting to get some micro marring, and it's starting to drive me NUTS.

I currently own a porter cable with LC Orange, White, Blue and Black pads. I have M205 and M105.

My question is, what would be the best way to get rid of the micro marring? I'm thinking of using just M205 on the white foam pad as a one step as the paint isn't in that bad of condition, you can only see the marring in direct sunlight.

I also want to change up my wax, as I think the application and removal of NXT2.0 actually induced some of the marring :(. I've been thinking about using Meguiars D15601 instead.

All/any help is greatly appreciated.

I'll chime in with firsts on do a small test spot. And go from there. The last audi I worked on was some pretty hard paint and I ended up doing CG v32 on an orange pad followed by v36 also on orange and then finished with v38 on white. Overkill but it was a buddy of mine getting ready for show season and he wanted it to look perfect.

Just do a quick test spot with the white and 205 see if it gives the result you are after. If not maybe bump to orange.

I did a test spot earlier, but I did it with M205 on white pad, then M205 on the blue pad and then pulled it into the sun. It looked great. I'm wondering if I actually need to finish up with the M205 on blue, or if white would have been enough. I guess I should have pulled it into the sun to check the progress in between steps.

The paint seems softer than I was expecting, because I have read that Audis typically have very hard paint.

:welcome::wave:
Yes change the wax please if it's only a weekend car why not go with a nice wax ie. midnight sun, synergy, souveran. Or if you must be frugal some colli 845. Yes test spots will tell you the story every paint is different so no one will be able to tell you what will work with what you have.

I have Zymol Carbon Carnuba wax. Is that considered good stuff? I kind of like the "oily glossy" look to spray on waxes, but I'm doubting they last and give good protection correct?

I would suggest you pick up some menzerna sf4500 for the micro mating and as of wax I would recommend any of the swissvax's.

Zapa,

Any specific reason you don't recommend the Meguiars products?

Black Audi R8? Do that bad boy some justice, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant or Pinnacle Black Label Sealant and Blackfire Black Ice:
This is one coat PBL Sealant and one coat of Black Ice on my Genesis.

Find a local Cquartz Finest installer and thank me later ;)

And since you mentioned IL - Zach McGovern is your guy.

:iagree:

Interesting, thanks for the advice guys. So I think I'll start with a test section of M205 on a white pad, if that doesn't work I think I'll move to m105 on a white pad, then follow with m205.

I'm also going to look more into this Blackfire Black Ice wax.

Oh, and the paint on that Genesis looks incredible!

You could also go with the orange pad and M105 if the white pad doesn't work for you and then follow up with M205 on a white pad. NXT is decent. Just as an FYI D156 is a spray wax. The longest lasting sealant from Meguiar's is ultimate wax. M21 is right behind it (M21 is the pro version of NXT). M26 is also nice. The beauty of these products is that they all work in a system together since you already have M105/M205.

I read good things about wolfgang paint sealant, menzerna powerlock, blackfire.

Hey, Turk - If you want to try some of the Menzerna products, you are welcome to stop by The Cave and we can experiment.

I've had really good success with Menzerna/LC hydro tech pads/Flex.

Let me know if you want to head back to Woodstock :xyxthumbs:

Welcome! I don't know how you've cared for the car over the past 1.5 years, but if all you see is some micro-marring on black paint, then I submit that one or more of the following is true:

1. you are doing a great job so far
2. it hasn't been washed more that a couple times
3. it has hard paint (but if 205 and a white pad is working, then the paint probably isn't super hard)

If you are going to do a test spot with M205, and you only have light micro-marring, I would suggest wiping down the paint with isopropyl alcohol, carpro eraser or body prep solvent after doing your test spot. M205 does have a lot of oils and could be hiding the micro-marring. Also, invest in some high quality microfiber towels; that should help a lot with the micro-marring.
